Self imposed exile:

Don't we already have to pay a tax for CD-Rs and cassettes and the like. Now another one? Hillery Rosen needs to be slowly mutilated with a knife and handed over to Raycav.

Fortunately it aint gonna happen. The backbone ISPs (AT&T and the like) will not go for it...

Another article

Yet another futile attempt at copy protection  . Geez what is the big deal? Why not just hook up the output port of a cd player into the input of a sound card- copy protection don't work no more. Easy.

Hmm...another solution:

Disolve the Riaa!...all they do is bitch and who can afford the prices they put on records anyway?

Mind you, there's a significant quality loss associated with doing that, because you go through D/A conversion and then A/D conversion (and those A/D converters in your sound card suck).

A better method is to get a sound card with S/PDIF digital inputs and then connect the digital outputs of your CD player into it. Presto, all-digital data transmission and no copy protection. Boo hoo for the asshole music companies.

Eh I'm cheap and have no money. Hell my soundcard is a crappy ISA SB16. :D

Anyways I've always been tired of RMS's whining (even though I do so myself) What is really annoying is his plots to bring down linux with "The HURD" to satisfy his ego and his insistance on calling Linux GNU/Linux. Ugh.
Oh so if I used MSVC to compile a program I would have to call it MS/whatever?

Big shit if they use bitkeeper to manage the linux kernel. RMS is just someone witha big EGO

Can a mod rename this thread to News and Gripes?

Done. And what's this doing here? Moving to OT.

RMS is funny. The Hurd has been under development for about a bazillion years and only just got support for hard discs bigger than 4 gig

Funny, a bit disturbing

Security A small report in last week's Business Week has left computer hackers collectively choking on their Diet Cokes. While not traditionally the read of choice for most hackers, the magazine caught the eye as it detailed the US air force's new whizz-bang computer system that enables any of its staff around the world, with access to a web browser and the right encryption software, to speak to air command and call in air strikes, reconnaissance sorties or a realtime map of local enemy territory within seconds. The article is bristling with *****-sure quotes from military types boasting about how it will lead to a new paradigm of battlefield efficiency and speed. The hackers, however, are interested in one simple sentence issued by a confident director of technology at Lockheed Martin, the firm that has designed the system. "All you need is Internet Explorer," says Doug Barton, explaining how simple it is to use. So then, let's get this straight, ask the hackers, you're prepared to gift control of history's most awesome military machine to, say, a spotty teenager in Fresno who prefers to stay indoors fiddling with his computer rather than be outside skateboarding like everyone else his age?

And another one

Who in their right mind would use MS software on a WARSHIP. Ok it's win2k so that isn't too bad if they lock it down properly. However using IE to access the system? I see crazies. However we don't know if security holes are purposely placed to aid the NSA :) (kidding, right?) . Anyways hopefully their is still the human component to go through, hopefully. It would be extremely funny if WWIII cooked off due to an MS glitch (the world sucks).

Hillery Rosen quits the RIAA:

Wired: http://www.wired.com/news/business/0,1367,57355,00.html

The Register: www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/28989.html

I suppose she couldn't take it anymore. However according to the article she isn't supposed to be as nasty as imagined, though still nasty.

Info: http://www.wired.com/archive/11.02/hating.html

Interesting. The article appears to make her seem like she actually believes in what she is (was) doing.

Oh and in other news TIA has a better chance of getting defeated: www.wired.com/news/business/0,1367,57362,00.html

Maybe the republican party isn't so shitty after all... Hopefully Bush

Using frames on web sites is patent infringment: www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/28985.html

Yeah, right. It would be so easy to find prior usage, as the article says.

And please comment on the articles posted above, esp the microsoft warship one.

Oh and she hates Eminem. Pretty ironic that eminem make shitloads for the music industry, not so ironic when you consider that she is gay and eminem is a bigot.
