Worst Lie your parents told you

I'm unbelievably lucky, as my parents never told me a lie. ( I think).
When I was 4 years old, and I asked "Is there a real santa claus" they told me no. Yes, to some it perhaps destroyed a childhood fantasy, but to me, it made little difference. I was raised in an open home, where any topic could be discussed. What about any lies your parents told you?

My parents were legally required to bring me up as a catholic.....that I think covers it.

Plenty...but after a while sorta got filtered in with Dad spouting things like "Son, if God existed would you really want to worship a bush?"

So for the most part not much, because around 13~14 I pretty much got everything from Sex to religon as I kept beating dad at chess.

No, as both me and my dad agree calling him a bush in any sense of the plant would be insulting to the plant.

And as for the other...sorry he doesn't deserve to be in such company either...

Moron fits him pretty nicely right now...

I dont remember anything my dad told me being a lie that would be bad. He has had to tell me cover stories about his work but thats not exactly the same thing.

My mom used to tell me things like I will get that for you, I will pay the bills, I wont stay at your house more than a few days, and they are always not true. I dont think she is intentionally lying but unable to admit her inability to get anything right.

I have a friend who has told me that his mother once said to him: "oh, so that's where I put my tea bag."

Compared to that my parents were the most truthful people ever.

My parents never tried to make me believe Santa was real, they put the presents under the tree while I watched.

Gawd......

I've always counted myself extremely lucky in having the parents I do. They've never really lied about anything, but some things they have kept from me. Like the day I went to the hospital in '99, my toolbox was stolen from my brother's place of work. Six months later, when I decided it was time to go get it, it was like "uhm, we have something to tell you...". It was an antique wooden Gershner in good condition. Not to mention the hundreds of dollars worth of tools it contained, including my great-grandfather's 1896 patent dated micrometer. :(

Every time they said they cared about me, it seemed they almost went out of their way to disprove themselves.

Sorry if I bring down the party...

If this thread was about my grandparents, then I'd really have some choice tales to tell. Like the one my aunt told us about my grandma beating my mother with a furnace poker to where blood splattered on the wall.

I don't get it.

Anyway, nothing big- that I've found out- just Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, etc.

Same here with me. I think the told me too much truth. But my Mom especially exaggerated a lot to scare us. She told me and my three other siblings (when I was 5 or 6) that to stay away from strangers b/c they would molest you (and got really specific in what pedophiles do), and leave you floating in the Raritan river (River in NJ). That pretty much scared the shit out of the four of us.

I think I should explain that one....they were legally required to bring me up a catholic (I got to see the documents myself)...the only lies were the ones connected with that.
