Okay, someone insists on Taoism being a branch of Buddhism. I'm pretty sure that the two religions developed separately. However, I'm not all that familiar with either religion, so if anyone has any information on this topic, please, please point the way for me. I hereby thank you in advance. ::bows::

Short General Answer:

Budhism concerns spiritual purification and acheiving divine enlightenment through reincarnation. It originated in India.

Taoism concerns observing the universal balance of the forces of nature (like Yin and Yang). It originated in China.

Budhism is also older than Taoism, and neither have any relation to each other in their origin.

I believe that they both began seperately, but later on did borrow elements from eachother.

Buddism was design, written and director by a lovly guy whos name I forget but after he become "enlightend" he took the name and title of Budda, In Western terms it means Enlightend One but a much more acurate Translation
Is the Awakened One

Buddism was in a near direct result of the corruptions of Hinduism.

Buddism is completly unchanged from when it was first founded
And I can safly say that because besides a few Guide Lines Buddism Provides the Do what you feel is right clause

In other words if you feel you will be awaked spirtualy through balancing on your head and juggling Banana's, By all means please do, If its standing at the highest point on the land on one foot with a brooding look, Go nuts
To be more acurate Buddism can be said to be the ultimate borrower as it lays few rules down itself, instead insiting its followers find their own ways.

If I needed to cite sources, which books/websites would be good at explaining the differences between the two religions?

Good People to Talk to about Buddism

1. Budda, Like Elvis they say he's still kicking around
2. Failing that the Dali Lama
3. A Zen Buddist Master, A Japanish Offshot of Buddism but to get the postion of Master(More acuratly *Teacher) takes quite awhile and TONS of Devoulitonal time, Depending on where you are you might even be able to find them in the Yellow Pages

Web-sites I don't know but a simple google search from somone less lazy than I should turn up a few pages  :)

I was hoping for some websites that have reliable information. More than once, I've been told that a site isn't a reliable source, therefore citing it is not good enough.

I dunno about 'reliable'... but here's a site I've found useful when looking up info on various religions and such.

Thank you I know what his name is but I have no chance in hell of spelling it

I'm quite aware of the whole story from Transaition with Siddthara to Budda but he did not ask that and I don't want to spend the six pages I needed explaing about it :D

Espcialy not if he did not ask for it :)

On a totally unrelated note, I must point out that I'm deeply disturbed by the fact that you claim to be Mr. Bean, and yet your avatar is clearly a member of the Blackadder family...
