Will we see a major war between the United States and China within the next fifty years?

No, The US does not have the ability to launch an massive landing on the Chinese Mainland, Nor does it have the resources and time to fight through Russia or the Asia Countrys to the south to get to China

Nor will those people let us base troops there

I think nothing. There's the whole Taiwan thing, but really, China would never invade Taiwan, and hell it'd take at least a decade to assemble the amphibious capability necessary for such a feat, even if they wanted to do it.

I don't know about the US, but in Europe they're taking away jobs and "Made in China" products are cheaper and with the same degree of quality.

I was joking by the way true story in the 1950s in Sherbrooke there was a chinese restaurant named White tower it was closed when people found out that instead of chicken they ate cat.

my mother ate in that restaurant and she said it was good.

Actually the koreans ate cat. The chinese ate dog meat (csau-csau) but it is forbidden even in China for two years.

The only people who have to worry about China is Russia and Russia has nukes(Alota nukes)

China has military 3 times as large as the US but doesnt have technological parity. China is like the US during WWII and the US is like Germany.

In all seriousness, the US and China are on damned good grounds. China is trying to work capitalistic philosophies into its communist economy (the Premier is trying to convince the chinese senate that various capitalist ideas are actually communist).

The only possible issue in the Japan-Sea area is North Korea. If they nuke a South Korean city, China is likely to steam roll North Korea. And the US will be providing the bullets, so we'll be even more chummy.

However, when the Taelons start the Sino-Indian War we're all fucked. LONG LIVE THE RESISTANCE!!!

The basic question is this: What in heaven's name does China have that would justify war with them? Rice?

The only reasons I could see are 1) fundies take over the US and start a crusade to convert the heathens, or 2) China invades our allies, or declares war on the US just for the sheer imperialistic hell of it. Neither are really probable.

China is getting closer to an equal technological footing, what with the mass stealing of US technology. Eventually China is either going to lose our trade (because our economy can't handle their cheap goods) or we're going to lose much of our economy (same difference) and have to restructure.

Hopefully freedom will triumph in China before #2 happens.

I predict China will fall the way of Russia before there ever becomes a full scale war. If there is a conflict, it will probably be a mostly naval one, probably over Taiwan, or the Spratly Islands. An invasion of China will probably not be necessary or attempted.

And yes we do have bases in East Asia. We have Guam, South Korea, Japan, and Diego Garcia to name a few. We could also get use of Australia, The Philipines, and a few other countries depending on the nature of the threat. We are also currently negociating basing rights with Vietnam.

No. Strategic paralysis should at least ensure that, or at least I hope so.

I doubt there would be a general war between China and the US. At best there might be skirmishes at sea or in the air over some issue, but a big war on the ground, I doubt it. China is a nuclear power and so far the US has avoided fighting anyone with nukes.

What worries me is the currant Korean situation. If there's a war, then how will China act. NK would lose, and if the US was fighting alongside SK then it could cement US influence in that region for a long time. I doubt China wants American influence that strong right on it's border.

The Taiwan issue would be the major flashpoint if conflict were to develop between the US and China. While I don't think there would be a general ground war fought, I think the US and the Chinese navies could very well take pot shots at each other in the near future.

China probably wishes North Korea would just go away, and the only reason they wouldn't be in favor of NK's collapse is that it would trigger a flood of refugees into China. If Korea were unified under Seoul, the Koreans would no longer have any real reason to maintain close military ties to the United States, and without a North Korean boogeyman, the Japanese left would probably start demanding the US get out of Japan. Except for the refugees, a collapse of North Korea favors China.

Its very unlikely we'll see a war between America and China. Both will have toom uch to lose and too little to gain. Its morel ikely China becomes a close US ally and we gang up to ass rape India or the Middile East.
