Rating for the last episode of Firefly, a show that was poorly promoted, stuck in a lousy time-slot, aired out of order, no network support, and no fan base: 2.7 rating, 4.2 share.

Rating for the latest episode of Enterprise, a show that's been promoted up the wazoo, in a perfect time-slot, the flagship of the UPN network, with a built in fanbase of Trek zombies that will watch anything B&B fish out of the toilet for them: 2.5 rating, 4 share.

Status of series:

ENTERPRISE: Despite collapsing ratings, the creators' exceptionally poor track record with Voyager, growing fan criticism, consistently poor writing and lackluster acting, and the complete and utter failure of "Nemesis" at the box office, Enterprise is still on the air and will probably be with us for years to come.

FIREFLY: Despite having a creator with a proven track record of making hits (Buffy, Angel), a small but growing core of fans, great writing, a near-perfect cast, and better ratings than Enterprise, Firefly has been cancelled by Fox and won't be picked up by UPN. Joe Millionaire, in the meantime, draws record viewership numbers.

This is the second time Fox screwed over its chance for a good scifi show. First Space Above and Beyond, now Firefly.

Well, FOX does make more money than UPN. They do so by offering what people want. People want reality TV more than they want good Sci-fi. FOX will air what sells over what doesn't. What can you say, that's how capitalism works.

Maybe when the reality TV fad goes away, descent sci-fi will make a come back within the vacuum. There is always hope.

So if you're UPN, why not dump Enterprise and run Firefly in its time slot? It's not like those ratings could get much worse. "The Shit In Your Hand and Look At It!" show could draw more viewers than that.

Right, right, pipe dreams. The Trek franchise makes too much money for Paramount to abandon it. The fact of the matter is, "Joe Millionaire", "WWE Thursday Night Smackdown", "Crossing Over With John Edwards", and (probably) coming this fall, "Shit In Your Hand and Look At It!" draw more viewers because people want to watch vacuous crap. "Firefly" gets shafted, as do sci-fi fans.

One fears that we will never get to see Firefly over here in the uk. if we did there might be a bit of a campaign for the BBC or Channel Four to pick it up, which has been done before with american shows that were popular over here but cut by the american channel.

I wanted Lone Gunmen to be run down here in Tassie. The mainland got it, but we didn't.

But we still get Voyager, DS9 re-runs AND Enterprise.

And for some reason they decided to stop doing re-runs of S:AAB?

Lone Gunmen has been pretty much erased from existence, due to the whole 9/11 parallels.

I don't know. Which show cost more to make? Besides, Enterforaprise is Paramount's baby, so they will plug it no matter what. That is why UPN is such a shit hole of a station, and not very profitably at that.

Maybe there is hope on the Sci-fi channel. But then again, they're the ones that give TV shows to useless douches like John Edwards.

Damn Fox. Damn UPN. Firefly, unlike that horrible abomination called Enterprise, was original, witty, fun to watch, and had a great cast and script. Now we have Man vs. Beast on Fox, the stupidest show on besides the Anna Nicole Smith *shit* ( I refuse to call it a show) and Joe Fuck-illionaire. Errrrr.................... :x :x :x :x :x :x SO MAD!! WHY WHY WHY!!

Did anyone watch "Man vs. Beast" last night? Stupid crap. Although on animals were harmed in the makingo f the show, the viewers were. The (spoiler ahead) bear won the eating contest (/spoiler), but I was hoping he'd go crazy and maul everyone who made the show. I don't know how annyone wcould watch it, but millions of people were watching anyway, and probaly going "Hahaha! Midgets! It's a classic!". Perhaps they should have one where they put the average show viewer and a gorilla on Jeopardy, and see who wins.

How can this nonsense beat something like Firefly in the ratings department?
