My house gets seven channels(to contrast, my friend gets 250). What about you?

Probably about 75. They run up to #119 or so, but there's big blocks of dead channels once you get past about 60.

Skimmer: The TV in the master bedroom is 18-15 years old, we're not sure. The tiny TV in my bedroom is roughly 25 years old.

Oh, and we -could- get more if we were to order cable, but it's too expensive so we can't.

three
ARD, ZDF and Südwest 3
all of them are stateowned, commercial free channels. the best three channels on air over here. the only problem is that the simpsons and futurama are on Pro7 which i dont get.

Wouldn't be worth it to get cable on TV's almost twice as old as yourself. You can get a good color TV for about 120 bucks.

Which is 119 bucks too expensive. At this point, we don't even have a VCR, so cable is sort of a faraway pipe dream.

Yuck! Mega-Yuck.
Whereas there are some rare occasions of good shows, they are all in all the most worthless stations in Germany.
When I waited for my cable, I was forced to watch those three. I almost got eye cancer from those.
Pro7 just beats them by miles when it comes down to entertainment.

ach, fuck the privat channels. all they show is soap operas, these dumb german talkshows ala jery springer, stupid american shows ala rosanne (exeption being home improvement), the occational movie which is cut into 10 pieces by commercials and the action news which are worth a little pice of dog shit slowly dissolving in a puddle. the newest invention they´re trying to torture us with are these stupid judge shows like richterin barbara salesch which now seem to be combined with the talk shows and the result being "2 bei some name i forgot"
the state owned stations have almost no commercials, and if they have them they´re before or after a show and not during the show, they´ve got good news (the four eyed lama that gave birth to a gipsy is not their major report) , good documentations and once in a while a good movie. check the third programms for that. they usually start the movies at night.
of course 90% of the stuff they air is purest shit but that´s a pretty good number compared to the 99.9% of the privats.

bah, pro7 is crap! the only good things they broadcast are the the simpsons and futurama. besides that they show the talkshows mentioned above from 14:00 to like 17:00 then the stupid rosanne clones and and at 20:15 movie which is a "weltpremiere" because it´s a pro7 production and after that they start their comedy program. no, stefan raab is NOT funny, he´s a fucking dumbass!

The Cable package we have gets about 60 something in total I believe, but everything after channel 51 is totally useless crap.
Out of everything we get the only ones I think that have anything really worth watching are:
Global: 3
OMNI 1(Previously called CFMT): 4
CityTV: 7
YTV: 25
FOX: 28
Much Music: 29
TLC: 34
Showcase: 39
Discovery: 42
History: 43
Teletoon: 45
Space: 50

Wait a minute. I'm paying $21,000 a year in tuition at the school where your dad is a full professor, and you can't afford cable? Where the hell is all my money going???
Oh, wait a minute. I'm sitting in that same school's library, getting paid to ask where all my tuition money is going on an Internet webboard. I asked and answered my own question.

I think we get around 80 on campus. Don't know exactly, I don't watch a whole lot of TV besides the closed circuit (movies and music vids most of the day) and occasional programs I want to watch. I need to see what channel History Channel is so I can start watching Conquest and Mail Call again.

I had ATT Digital Cable ( Silver Package ) which after two rate hikes in the last two months was 70 bucks! I took the box back about a week ago and now I have basic cable which is probably around 35 channels.

On the rabbit ears I get
ABC 9, 16
CBS 13
NBC 4, 64
Fox 11
WB 58
PBS 6, 27
UPN 18
All of the instances with mutliple channel numbers it's just that several of the stations here simulcast on more than one channel.
I also get some Christian station and a couple of spanish language stations including Telemundo. Other than Fox I get good reception on at least one of channels listed for each network.
You would think that antennas on top of mountains would mean that I'd always have great reception but I think that would interfere with the Third World vibe we have going here in southern Arizona.

About 50. I only ever watch five of them, though, for a total of about 4 hours a week. If the cable bill had to come out of my pocket I wouldn't even bother having a TV at all.

Several hundred. There's a lot of good channels on there. I usually watch:
History Channel
SciFi
Comedy Central
Tech TV
HBO
Starz
Music channels (it's like a commercial-free radio with information on the current pieces of music constantly displayed on the screen...pretty cool if I want to just sit and read the latest Star Wars Insider and listen to some random classical music and still be able to see who composed it, opus number, etc.)
Nickelodeon (...not nearly as often as I used to when I was younger, apparantly...in fact I barely watch it anymore...)
Cartoon Network (same as above, although I'll be watching it MUCH more often when The Clone Wars is broadcasted)
AMC
TMC
And just a bunch of other channels I watch whenever a good movie is on.
