If any of you Americans are watching the State of the Union address, please do my sister a favor: grab a pen and paper, and make a mark every time Bush says "America". Thank you :D

It's on right now where I am, and Bush is bringing up his economic plan. Whenever it went to the audience clapping, all of the Republicans on one side were clapping, while only a few Democrats on the other side were.

Ugh, I remember that. I think they should put up flashing billboards exclaiming "DO NOT APPLAUD UNTIL THIS SIGN SHUTS OFF!!!!" during addresses like that.

omfg, Bush pledging $1.2 Billion towards hydrogen powered cars?

Is this his way of telling Dad he doesn't want to be part of the family business?

And since Dick Cheney is whisked away to an undisclosed location for the event does this prevent him from havi g a heart attack upon hearing the news?

Edit: Yes he was there, I missed it at first, enjoy your trivial victory Beezlebub.....

Of course the Democrats aren't clapping. He's talking about cutting taxes so--gasp!--the people who actually go out and work for their money can keep it, instead of funding social programs that don't work. He says socializing medicine is a lousy idea that'll turn the doctor's office into the motor vehicles office. He wants to privatize social security, so people can own their own retirement money and the government doesn't have an unfunded multi-trillion dollar mandate on its hands in 27 years. He says the tort lawyers can go fuck themselves. In short, he's talking about taking power away from politicians by taking money and programs away from them. Why wouldn't a Democrat hate that? It's the exact opposite of what they've stood for for the last thirty years.

Also, right now, Bush has brought up AIDS, and his plan to prevent it.

Oil industries would just shift into gas, I believe.

I love his speechwriter. Whoever she is, she manages to make him sound articulate for the big speeches.

GWB did very, very poorly when he was involved in the oil business. I don't recall him doing much more with it after he left.

And you can also get H2 from crude oil, quite a bit of it (but you still get CO2 emissions in the process). I'm not sure how energy efficient it is (at least compared to getting it from H2O).

There will be other needs for oil as well - hydrogen power may not be useful for everything, so those things may continue to use hydrocarbon fuels. Plus, you get plastics from oil.

I don't think you can get within ten miles of the Capitol with bad intentions tonight. Short of a tactical nuclear strike, that's probably the safest building in the country right now. On the other hand, if something does go wrong, they've probably packed off the secretary of agriculture or something to Honolulu, just in case. Just don't ask me who he is.

Cheney gave a great sound bite on a talk show right after inaguration where the interviewer asked him about the problem of dependence on foreign energy, and he replied that we ought to increase our use of nuclear power.

Yeah, I forgot about the plastics industry, but I was mostly refering to the fuel market.

Maybe this means we'll start investigating mining the outer Solar System? (High Frontier, here we come!)

Heh. He mentioned Communism as one of the great evils of the last century. Guess he doesn't care if he pisses Beijing off this time.

If they get mad at hearing the truth then lettem get mad. We don't need to pull punches for the reds in our own state of the union address. If they want consolation they can look at the trade deficit.

Its a he. There was an article on the newspaper a year ago on him. I thought the speeches were quite good.
