Battlefield 1942

I just bought this game, mainly because the Dark Guard (DG) is playing it, and quite frankly I don't play any other games they do. However another aspect that turned me on was the point that you can be on foot, control ships of all types (yes even a carrier or a battleship), jump into jeeps and transport trucks, and even fly!!! It's a bitch to fly though, you have to use the mouse. If someone can tell me otherwise, I would like to plug my flightstick up, but I didn't see anything in the manual. If anyone else has this game, let me know. I ain't gonna pester you about recruitment, if you want to join the DG let me know. I am interested in running some hell with you guys on this game if we could. I'm betting at least Shep has it.

I'm willing to try it out, its on my list of games to get but there are more important things to spend money on at this moment. Once I do get it it would be nice to play with guys I know from here.

How many battlefield 1942 threads do we need!? I guess its not as bad as it was, when we'd get on everytime someone bought the game.

I've played the demo before, but its just too much for my current computer to handle.

I prefer flying planes in third person mode; makes it a lot easier to drop bombs.

You can hook up your joystick to fly the planes. Yes, it's a shitload of fun once that's going. Go to control options and poke around, you'll find it.

Stravo, just like, sell your car man. We need to begin forming forces!!!

I apologise Ocean Spammer. I don't recall a 1942 thread. Then again, I was never looking.

Exonerate. You can fly in 3rd person (which yes, I prefer myself) However it's like doing so in X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, no targeting, not much of anything else.

Hotfoot, love the comment, love the avatar. Get your ass online sometime. Email me at CantCountToZero@aol.com. It installed Gamespy Arcade which I didn't want to, but figured this would be easier to find online. I noticed the Zone doesn't handle it, which is bullshit. I need to check and see if it let's me go through the game itself. Hell, maybe Arcade will help me find more JK II and Wolfenstien servers. heh.

yeah i play that game all the time at lan with my friends, its a mad multi player game, planes are easy to fly, you just use your usual forward button (which for me is w, as it is easy to run with ur left and aim and shoot with your right on the mouse) and then you use the directional arrow buttons to control the movement of the plane, good luck to you mate

Oh shit, I cannot fucking stand default control settings on FPSers. There's only a few people I know that use my setup. (Consequently, they're the ones that taught me how to play.). It was a bitch though to use the mouse. The plane kept rolling over when I would move,

whats so bad about default settings, they obviously work well cause lots of people use them and therefore they are programmed to be default :P just play a bit with it, it works well

Fuck that. I hate those damned controls. I managed to reprogram every control to my liking. LoL. The joystick did work, I hopped in a plane and crashed immediately. After that a plane never spawned again. Sucks. But this should work out now.

On flying with the mouse issue, you can use the old style D-pad thing, it gives a better feel for it. I've only just got into the game, played it at a Lan place.

Fun game, a handful of nitpicks:

1) People cannot stand on the wings of an aircraft taking off, let alone in flight.
2) Jeeps and tanks cannot fly 3 miles in a controlled manner just because you put a half dozen detpacks under it.
3) A destroyer would not survive a flank speed broadside impact of the bow of an aircraft carrier...
4) General infantry does NOT carry parachutes as standard equipment....

I play, quite often too, till I had to wipe my computer and could not find CD 2 for the game, still hunting for that thing...

Anyway I'll answear your nitpicks
1) People cannot stand on the wings of an aircraft taking off, let alone in flight.
Gravity Boots, its also why they run so slow, Was only given to the 101st 1/2 Airborn division :D
2) Jeeps and tanks cannot fly 3 miles in a controlled manner just because you put a half dozen detpacks under it.
Controlled? LMAO! Watch the jumpers videos sometime, I don't think fliping end over end is controled, Also it requires splashback to be off, which is on by default
3) A destroyer would not survive a flank speed broadside impact of the bow of an aircraft carrier...
They will if they are both made out of foam! :P

4) General infantry does NOT carry parachutes as standard equipment....
The 101st and 1/2 did!

As for the game I excell in tank Combat and Fighter Pilot Duties

ESPCILLY in a Zero or a Mustang(*Hugs the Mustang)
There is just so much shit you can pull in a Mustang that will kill you in any other planes

IMHO I HATE Stukas, damn pigs, fly like a pig, Dive like a Pig, Land like a pig

It's a pretty good game, but I'm packing some pretty good hardware to back it up. For the life of me I couldn't get the hang of the planes, so I developed an extraordinary hatred for them and consequently can bring them down with pretty much anything at my disposal after a lot of practice.

As for controls...I use a Belkin Nostromo n50 Speedpad! It's not for everyone, and it's better if you're right handed, but anyone can use them well. They're a cross between a keyboard and a D-pad. It's really, really comfy to hold and makes gaming superbly fluid.

I actually don't have the full game yet. Just talking from my experience with the demo. For a while my network wouldn't let me play any games, so when the game finally came out, I didn't get it. I might remedy that shortly, however...

Wait...you recognize the avatar? Yes! All hail Katja! :D

Hey I have a good idea. If you really want some air combat, go to the official site and download Coral Sea. All you do is fly. There is no limit to how many planes can be in the air....they keep respawning. You can get some really good practice and some killer dogfighting in that level. It's currently my favorite level to play. It's great fun. :D

As for controls, you can just use W and S to speed up and slow down, respectively. A and D control your rudders. And the directional arrows control the flaps to roll left and right and climb and dive. It's a very easy setup. As for firing, FUCK THE MOUSE. It SUCKS. Unless you are going for precision strafing runs, DON'T use the mouse. Clear out all the defaults for guns and bombs and use Spacebar for bombs and Left Ctrl for guns. It works very well for me. When you go into a turret on an aircraft, the mouse still fires and moves the guns, so you don't have to worry about that.

And when you respawn on the deck of the carrier, don't wait around like a schmuck or you will get bombed. :D Don't be picky, just hop in either the fighter or bomber and take off ASAP or YOU WILL be bombed. Be careful when firing flak bursts, because you'll most likely get the planes confused at first and will hit your own fighters trying to intercept the enemy planes. If this keeps happening, tell your interceptors to leave and let you gun down enemy planes...they'll usually leave to bomb their carrier to suppress the fighters from taking off.

LOL! Bean, I love the reasoning... I talked to one of the betatesters for the game and he was telling me that they just pretty much rigged the thing for fun, not realism, and they sure succeeded!

Oh and Bean, if you want disk 2, let me know... I can get you the image from either of'em.
