[When] Did "Simpsons" go bad?

I saw some best of "Simpsons" threads and I love the show so much that it is really hard to pick even a top ten. But I have noticed, at least in my opinion, that the show has declined significantly in quality over the past 2-3 seasons. There are a few good moments or episodes, but not as many as before, and the general quality and 'joke-selection' does not seem to be as rigorous. Do you think the Simpsons 'jumped the shark' (i.e. was there a defining moment when you knew from then on, the show would never be the same)? If so, when?

The Day they Killed Side-Show Bob :D

They are simply getting more sophsicated with thier humor as they concetrate more on Furturama and near the end of the shows life

Long as they keep doing thier Hollowean specials I'm happy

It's still as fresh as ever. The Simpsons has not yet jumped the shark.

Yeah, I have noticed, ezpecially in the last seeason that the quality of the showss have been going down. Before i thought that it would be ten years later and i am still watching new episodes, but now I don't think thats going to happen.

I think FOX will do everything in it's power to keep The Simpsons around for as long as possible. When Married with Children ended, (moment of silence please) The Simpsons became the oldest of the FOX shows, and it's replacement "flagship" show. Think about it, if The Simpsons left, what would FOX have left. X-Files is gone, Family Guy fizzled, and Bill O'Reilly is an asshole. As long as Groening and the rest of the cast/crew stays on, the show will still be enjoyable. However, if someone does indeed leave, the show needs to be ended gracefully right away (ie. grand final episode with all origional cast/crew). The show has given so much FOX, they must now take care of it in its old age, not screw it over like Married with Children and In Living Color.

It has declined slightly, but considering they have been on longer that most shows. it is expected.

So is Family Guy cancelled for good or what? I heard it pissed off a bunch of religious fundies or something similar. Family guy was IMNSHO parallel or superior to late Simpsons quality.

Quality has declined over the last two or three seasons, but it is still well worth watching.

Agreed. Family Guy was incredibly funny and brilliant.

I want Family guy on DVD. Or bring it to HBO or Com Central, or just bring it back to FOX. This show is by FAR superior to any other drivel on TV.

Yeah, FOX really fucked over Futurama. Gave it a horrible time slot, always got bumped during football season.

I think Simpsons has declined in the last season or two. I don't think any paticular show indicated they "jumped the shark." If I had to pick, I might say when they killed off Maude.

Id would be okay with the decision to retire the show before it gets really horrible.

considering that I have not longer been keeping track of the seasons, but have only viewings, I ahve noticed however that it has declined slightly in quality, though it did suck that Futurama got the axe, damm that was yet another good show wrecked by the network suits.
