Something for Win98 users

Post by Shinova »

Ever wondered why Win98 (or Win95, in case one of you has been living in a cave) becomes thoroughly unusable after a month or so?

An interesting little tidbit.

Doesn't explain why my old Windows ME was fucked up.

There lots of strange KB articles. I once found one that said, PING STOPS RESPONDING AFTER 60 DAYS, or some such time. Since Ive never needed to ping -t any box for that long, I thought it was kinda funny.

How the fuck do you get Windows 95/98 to keep going for nearly 50 days anyway? In my experience it just does not happen.

It's possible but hard.

One client I used to have:

Client owned a bunch of appartments.
He had Win95 as a print server and running streamserve (db) for the rent.

That computer stayed up and running for 2 YEARS! :gasp:

Finaly the power supply went dead, I repleased it booted up and the MF countinued to run no prob.

That was fucking amazing.

I did try to sell him a new server and junk but I was to stunned to really make a good case.

Edit
Not sure abot the 2y figure that's what he told me. It might have bscreened and rebooted now and then but I donm't know.

It was stuffed in a closet, no mouse no kb and no monitor connected..
