Bush and the "mispronouncing" of Nuclear...(RANT)

by MKSheppard
This rant is brought on by a thread on ASVS about Bush "mispronouncing" Nuclear in his state of the union speech....

Why is it that everyone in America is, according to New Yorkers, supposed
to sound like they're from that misbegotten pisshole, or else they're idiots?

I suppose next you'll be talking about how Midwesterners and
people from New England talk "funny"....

See this?

Image

The farther below that sign, the more you fucking NEW YAAAWKERS
are the morons who can't talk worth SHIT.

{edited to fix it to refer to "pronouncation" instead of "spelling"}

Didn't someone point out that the West Virginian mountainers are the closest to Colonial English? New Yorkers just can't figure out how to separate words. "Forget about it" is supposed to be three words, not one . 'Course, I'm in the South, where people add syllables to words.

He didn't misspell it. He mispronounced it. It's not "new-kew-lar." It's "new-klee-ar." It's one of the most infuriating mispronunciations in existence, frankly, because it makes him sound like a fucking idiot. He's one of those people who probably says "irregardless," too.

Carter pronounced it that way too, and he was from Georgia. Like I said, us
Southerners don't complain about the way you Midwesterners and New
Englanders, and New Yorkers speak, but we are constantly shit upon
by you condescending bastards.

Carter was also a trained nuclear engineer, or it may have been only a technician, in the USN...

OK, Shep:

I don't say much about how other people talk, but there are two kinds of people: Those who say "new-klee-ar," and retards.

Homer said nu-cu-lar. Not the correct way.

Three actually, the above two, and morons who consider incredibly minor things that don't Actually effect anything important.

And there are two kinds of people: Normal people, and fucking morons who
elect a governor who's more interested in getting gigs on TV than actually
governing..

You're just annoyed because you didn't have a governor who's an ex-Navy SEAL. ;)

Ventura is an embarassment. During his whole term, he kept trying to
mug the fucking camera rather than actually GOVERN...

And us in Maryland are quite happy with our new governor, whos
re-starting the death penalty after so many years of dis-use....

Since you obviously can't tell the difference between a joke and a real attack, Shep:

Grow a fucking sense of humor.

Well, that and, to paraphrase George Carlin, "Stupid is not a legitimate accent."

Pronouncing it "nu-cu-lar" is just fine, if your intent is to prove that you're stupid. Do you also pronounce the word "nucleus" as "nu-cu-leus"?

I knew someone said it before me. Dalton should probably take my quote off of the FUQ :(

Damnit people... so what if someone pronounces a word differently than you. The US is a fucking MELTING POT of people of different ethnicities. Of COURSE we're all going to have different accents and ways of saying things.

Haven't you seen the new Crunch bar with Caramel commercial with Shaquille O'Neil? That right there shows you there are two ways of pronouncing Caramel. And PECAN. How do YOU pronounce PECAN.

Pee-kan?
Pee-kahn?
Pe'khan?

Fucking leave Bush alone. Texas has its own fucking accent. Don't bitch because he supposedly "mispronounces" a word. Bitch at him when he makes stupid decisions.

"Supposedly?"

This is the same sort of situation as someone pronouncing "toe-may-toe" as "ter-mah-tay." It's quite simply totally wrong.

No it isn't. It's simple area accent. Fuck, *I* usually say 'mater, not tomato. That's because I'm from the South. That does not MEAN that it is WRONG. Everyone around here (the South) knows what I'm saying.

That's prolly why for me Southern American English is the hardest for me to understand :D

Much harder than Scottish *g*

Watch where you aim that. I'm Texan and I don't know anyone who says it that way.

*heh* Yeah, Scottish is pretty hard. But, we do speak slow. Not like Yankees who have to speak fast in order to get a word in edgewise. ;) (no offence Dalton)
