Linux Questions

Alright, I'm going to dual-boot my main computer between XP Pro SP1 and Mandrake Linux 9.0. I think I'll hold off on putting it on my laptop. I'm currently downloading the three ISOs (ahh, the joy of an Internet2 connection @ USF). Does anyone have suggestions about using it daily? And more importantly, does it support USB Audio devices?

Just some hardware problems. Adaptec updated their firmware, necessitating a driver revision that was included in Mandrake 9; if you have any older Adaptec SCSI cards, the installer will get stuck in an endless loop trying to probe the card.

Yeah it works with USB audio. I think you have to download extra stuff though. I don't use Mandrake, I use LFS, which means I have to download everything individually. Also I suggest you buy Mandrake, since when you buy it it comes with extra stuff, and will keep Mandrake from going further downhill.

EDIT: That would be a pseudo LFS, since it's a precompiled and stripped down version of LFS (which isn't really compatible because of all missing components). I'm going to install real LFS, using Corelinux to compile it.

I probably will buy a copy in the near future. Thanks for the heads up on USB Audio, will try tonight...
I don't have any SCSI devices in my machine, though I do have a Promise ATA controller card in my machine (Ultra100TX2)

If you have two hard drives, you can set up software raid (on the root filesystem unlike NT).

I don't have two drives, though I've done that before on another machine (Linux softRAID)
