Yes, I'm getting real close to having a "Ferrari drivetrain in a totalled Datsun body/chassis" thing going on.

Before anyone asks, yes, that key is the on/off switch, I spun in the chair a while back and snapped off the normal one, and I had run out of spares, so I went for the first N.O. momentary SPST switch I could find, and that was it. (Also, yes that is a PC100 64mb DIMM being used as a keychain.) You can see the remains of the original switch in the upper right side of the case.

Awesome! What kind of guts do you have in that baby?

Also, a question: How do you post actual images on a thread? I tried pasting the links but they show up as links, not images.

IIRC, didn't the Promise Ultra100 ATA controller have some issues with it that were corrected in the latter Ultra100TX2?

Got my "real" gutz in the post right now, currently she's an OC'd AMD Athlon T-bird 900 running at 1008mhz, 384mb PC133 ram, 32mb GF2 ultra, 8x4x32 burner (thing you see without a faceplate, couldn't beat the deal I got), 16x40x DVD-ROM, IBM DMVS18V class 18.2gb 10krpm SCSI-LVD-80 *PROTOTYPE*, IBM DCHS09W class 9.1gb 5400rpm? SCSI-2-WIDE *PROTOTYPE*, IBM DDYS-T18350N 18.5gb SCSI-LVD-160 (repaired/salvage). All running on an ASUS A7V133.

The "real" comp will be an AMD AthlonXP 2100+ T-bred B core proc (later upgraded to a 2800+ or higher when I get the money), 512mb DDR333, ASUS V9280S-TVD GF4 Ti-4200 128mb AGP8x ultra, 24x10x48x burner (already have it, just not installed, the system would lose the "look" of a pile of shit if I started putting good hardware in which is visible from the outside), 16x40x DVD-ROM, same set of SCSI's, using a 20GB Maxtor ATA-133 as the boot drive. All that running on an EPOX EP-8K9A2+ mainboard (fuck ASUS, every one of their demonic boards has blown the same way: I/O or IDE failure, and this goes even for my friends' comps as well, same problem, I'm getting real sick of RMA'ing ASUS mainboards)

And yes, I am serious about the drives being prototypes, the DCHS09W was originally used to test a new actuator, have 17 files written to it, some tests run and then scrapped, it's been running like a champ for over 7 and a half years now. :D And the DMVS18V was one of the very first 1/2 height 10krpm drives IBM produced, the one I have is one of the later prototypes, and it's got a heat problem from hell, which is what that external fan is for, it blows over the drive, without it, the fucker overheats and siezes, which means I have to shut down the machine, pull the bugger out, bang it on the desk a couple times after it cools, slap it back in, and go... Which is highly annoying, I know, I've done it a few times at the LANparties thanks to some gomer dropping light wrappers near the thing and they get sucked up, jamming the fan... No bad sectors on any of the drives BTW.

OS is Win2K Pro.

Remind me what the blue light does again. It doesn't have anything to do with K-mart, does it?

It looks cool... though at K-Mart it means you'd better run from the approaching herd of women looking for a good deal... *shudder*

Hehe.

Basically it amounts to a pile of outdated, randomly/hastily fitted, improperly/hastily repaired, and recalcitrant shit in a box.
