www.POE-News.com wrote:George Clooney reacted angrily when a journalist called the American actor's latest film -- the box office flop "Solaris" -- "boring" after it was screened at the Berlin Film Festival.

Clooney, who had even exposed his bare bottom for the camera in one scene, was happily answering questions at a news conference when a reporter rose to say the film was boring.

"I find you fascinating," Clooney said, responding to the Turkish journalist's remarks on the film -- which got decidedly mixed reviews in the United States.

"You crack me up, man. You just wanted to get up and be a rat, you know that? You just wanted to get up and say something rotten. What a jerk! I mean honestly, you know, what a shitty thing to say!" said Clooney.
EDIT: Censorship removed.

Solaris was cool, I don't know what you're talking about.

But even if you thought the movie was boring, it's still pretty unprofessional to go to a press conference just to tell an actor his movie was boring.

he's a movie critic, thats what he does- watch movies with critical point of view and then speak his mind. what does clooney expect? a bunch of softball questions and statements like: 'what was your favorite part of the movie?', or 'you look good in blue pants.'? Hell no, good for him telling it like it is, maybe georgie-boy's ego will come down a few notches.

I'm watching this thread. Cool it guys. If you want to have a debate about Solaris/ merits of George Clooney as an actor, do it, just don't argue about who started what or some such shit.

Ok, I havent seen Solaris yet but I do know this much -

1) The book is fantastic
2) James Cameron and Steven Sodenburgh << do these names mean anything to anyone? Terminator 2: JD, Titanic, Traffic and Oceans 11 to name but a few movies. (all Oscar winners or nominees)
3) It's been said by most of the cast and crew that the marketing (especially the trailers) was done shoddily
4) It was also said in 5 different countries (except America) that American audiences just didnt get it.
5) All British and Australian critics have been praising it

This looks like a fantastic movie, and on the 29th/30th of Feb I shall be back on this thread with knowledge of seeing the movie.

Let return to the point then
This guy's job is a movie Critic, How useful would he be if he never said bad things?

Well, I'm not that fond of critics. They just critise and given the chance couldnt make a movie half as good as Batman And Robin. However I can see you're point, but to just go there to blatently say "it's boring" isn't very constructive or helpful is it? It's just wasting the time of a man who has other things to do.

I'm not too big on professional movie critics myself. But they all loved Solaris, yet it flopped at the box office.

Why not just watch the original uberlong original? :)

Which would be true if that was the only thing the man said

If he stould up and said
"You sir are boring!" it would probably have been meanspirted, however if the man was pointing out flaws in his work and charatrising a particular part as "boring" then whats the problem

Style of Substance Fallcy in other words
If I say
"Don't light a match in the ammo room or you'll kill us all you dumb fucktard!"

And said person runs off to CO and compains that I called him a Dumb-Fucktard my CO might be upset, till he hears about the reason why I called him that(And why this critic called it borining)

I see you're point, but if you read the article it says he called the film "boring", and that doesnt sound like a certain part of anything it sounds like he's judging the entriety of the film.

The article said that the guy was a Journalist, not a critic...there is a difference.

Regardless of what the guy said it was unprofessional to say what he said at a press conference.

In an interview maybe it would be ok, but journalists are supposed to be objective.

Well its nice to have some-one agree with me for a change!

Seriously though, whatever the guy thought of the movie it was inapproprate to voice it like he did. I don't want to say it was wrong to say it, because, after all, we're all entitled to our opinions.

But given the nature of the guys job it was a big no-no...

In addition, Bean, why don't you dig George Clooney? I think hes a pretty good actor. 'O Brother were art thou?' was excellent. As was 'Oceans 11'...

Oceans 11 was awsome! Then agian, I dont think Steven Sodenburgh can really make any more bad movies can you? He is just a genius director. Although he is not as magnificent as THE GREAT BEARDED ONE HIMSELF - SIR STEVEN SPIELBERG! 8)

If I dropped my pants in front of a camera and somebody called it boring, I supposed I'd be pretty pissed about it too.

Indeed. I think Mr Spielberg is on a roll at the moment. Mind you he has always made good films.

I must drag my lazy ass to see 'Catch me if you can' - Im not a fan of Leo, but I dig Tom Hanks.
