Am I the only one who doesnt like Valentines day?

Post by The Great Unbearded One »

Ok people, here it is. Lets see who infact likes Valentines day and who infact thinks it's a waste of time. Who resents it because they are single and who thinks it's just a marketing ploy. Who thinks that Febuary 14th should be struck off the calendar, and who thinks we should have a repeat around August? Cast your votes, leave your comments, let the love flow.

I expect to be lavished in love and attention on St Valentine's day.

But I expect that every day, so there's no big reason why I should pretend to be a Catholic just to be bought pretty things.

*smirk* Good one, innerbrat.

As for Valentine's day, my husband always buys me gifts... but he does that for every occassion. I'm hoping *fingers crossed* this year it wil be a new car.

I would LIKE to like Valentine's Day.

But I'm a single man with a cold fire in my belly.

Thus I shall say I dislike it.

Keep hoping then. :D

I'm very apathetic to it unless I actually am in a relationship to start with. Never bothered with sending cards or anything to people I like, it just doesn't make sense to me.

But I did buy one g/f I had a little teddy and some chocolates a few years back.

I've just blown mine's credit card on my birthday pressie. But, who needs occasions? Especially pointless, impersonal ones, like St Valentines.
14th Feb is VDay (anti violence against women) anyway.

Damn, I just have to spoil it then. I see no problem with Valentines day. If you have no one to heap some lovin on, doesn't mean you have to hate it. While you should pay attension to your loved ones everyday, there is no problem in having a "special day" for it. Commercial whorism only applies if you buy into the commercial whorism, but buying my wife a nice card (if I don't make it on the comp) and some flowers is not commercial whorism.

Not every holiday has to be rebeled against guys. :D

Exactly!! My problem with Valentine's Day isn't the part where you tell people that you love them, my problem with it is that it's become the only time people do that! How silly! The people you love, you love them all year long, so why not show them or tell them so all year long? That's my issue with it. :D

This anti-VDay stuff is silly. I tell my wife I love her almost every day. On Valentine's Day, it's an excuse to be more lavish, that's all.

I got dumped on that day, but then again I am also hoping to be well enough to enjoy a wedding on that day.

Valentines day is for the guilty who feel that they havn't shown their love enough. Real love is a 24/7 deal, not a 1 in 365.

Still doesn't mean you can't have a holiday that you go above and beyond the norm. I always love my wife, but on Valentines you go for all the bells and whistels. I also do this on Christmas, Birthdays, Anniverseries, payday weekends, ect.....

I agree, for some its just icying on an already beautiful thing. But for a majority its a way to try and score brownie points when they feel like they havn't been keeping up with par, in their own opinions of the relationship.

False dilemma. There is no need to choose between showing love every day and doing something for Valentine's Day. It is completely possible to show your wife that you love every day, but go for a little extra on special occasions like birthdays, V-day, Christmas, etc.

Or do you propose that we eliminate all holidays of all kinds, because it's always better to be nice/show love/appreciate one another/etc 365 days out of the year? What the fuck is the problem people have with Valentine's Day? At least I can understand if you're single; it's just sour grapes. But if that's the case, just admit it instead of bullshitting.
