Which Film Do YOU Want To Get Oscars?

Okay, we all know the Oscars are a sham and not really good measures of talent etc.

But, if you were going to give an Oscar for best film or actor etc. from this last 12 months, what would you pick?

Personally, I think Road to Perdition should be well up there, how Chicago got 13 nominations I don't know.

You don't really think for one moment that films cost 100 million and more in some cases do you? the cash goes on bribes!

Only movie out of any of the nominated ones I saw was The Two Towers, so I pick that one.

Frankly,

I have NO CLUE why Chicago is getting all this attention. I have always been suspicious of Weinstein and his Miramax studios ever since they stole away Best Picture oScar from Saving Private Ryan to go to Sahkespeare in Love...that movie was GODAWFUL. I remember sitting there and watching in stunned disbelief at this steaming pile of a movie. THIS won best picture...this should not have even been nominated.

Spielberg, normally not a nasty guy about these things ever since that debacle has complained about Weinstein's tacics of essentialy buying critics and using his influence to get voting blocks for his films.

The fact that Chicago is coming out of nowhere and garnering these prizes is extrenely suspicious to me and already there are rumors floating around about Weinstein's actions behind the scenes.

I saw the movie here in NYC but I must say, while not the steaming pile that Shakespeare in love is...it is most certainly NOT best film material.

BTW Peter Jackson getting snubbed for Best Director yet the film is nominated for best picture...what did it do? Direct itself?

The Academy Awards are truly a horrific amalgam of politics, money and fame fucking. I will watch them, but never with taht same excitement I used to as a kid.

BTW - LOTR will beat out AOTC for visual effetcts, simply because I bet most of these guys haven't even seen AOTC.

Frankly I don't give a damn. There's only one movie award that I watch, the MTV Movie Awards.

Movie award shows are worthless. I never watch them.

And yes, it was indeed a travesty for Saving Private Ryan to lose to Shakespeare in Love. While I didn't find it as shitty as Stravo did, my wife and I both thought it fell into the "OK harmless fluff" category, not the "great movie" category.

The oscars aren't about the best movie. They are about the movie that can put out the best oscar campaign.

Well yeah, my whole post to start with was about that.

But if they did mean a damn and you could give the awards out, I bet we'd all do a lot better in public opinion than those overpaid critics and studio owners.

Not necessarily. Wasn't Kangaroo Jack number 1 for a while?

The Oscars are flawed, but getting the majority to decide what good films are isn't going to work either.

As for what films should win, I think LOTR and AOTC should win for something.

AOTC should win best special effects and best score at least.
LOTR:TTT should win best picture and best director.

actually each voter is required to watch the movie and it is verified they all do so. Wether their votes represent the typical movie fan, actual talent, or wether theres some poor liberals on the Academy who think that they should give Halle Berry the award based on her teats and not on her acting. (Monsters Ball SuUuUuUcKED)

I think tthe uSA has a severe problem with fame fucking, especially the Local News in every California TV area south of Sacramento. We also care too much about celebrity opinion. I don't need or want Tom Cruise's opinion on Iraq and I sure as hell don't want to listen to Bono whine about poor countries when he's making seven or eight figures per album. Maybe if he started throwing the bulk of his wealth into some credible global organization's coffers i'll consider takinghim seriously. (U2 sucks also by the way)

About 2 weeks ago I was in a mall in Mission Viejo California, having dinner with a friend of mine. It just so happened that the Joe Millionare guy walked into the Jewelry store and literally, everyone in the restauraunt poured out because some schmuck who got on TV was next door. Not even a celebrity per say but starfucking is no longer limited to actual famous people.

I think that can be attributed to the split vote between Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line, not because more Academy voters honestly preferred Shakespeare in Love.

And I really see no value in sitting down for 4 hours in order to watch Peter Jackson get screwed for the second year in a row.

Peter Jackson really deserves an Oscar. I mean, look, he has turned one of the greatest books of all time into a fantastic movie. Any other person would have made it shit, and really screwed it up. But Jackson, even with the changes he made, has created the perfect LOTR movies.
He was screwed over at the Golden Globes ( though who really cares about those, eh?) so I hope he wins an Oscar this year.

One movie that EVERYONE here should see, is El Crimen Del Padre Amaro (The Crime Of Father Amaro) One of the most profound and thought provoking movies I have ever seen. That one has to win both best foreign film and best film. Period. And Ana Claudia Talancon is one of the most beautiful women ever.

The Lord of the Rings films are not Hollywood products, and they're not prententious artsy-fartsy crap like The Hours, so they will not be honored. That's how it is.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:: has brief heart attack ::

Ok, I should warn you now that I am infact a wannabe director and movie nut so I may infact be a bit biast here but I get very touchy around the subjects of movies so you have been warned.

THE OSCARS ARE IMPORTANT. Ok, well they are too me. True not as much as the BAFTA's, but I still count them as an important event in the movie annual calendar. As for the bit about the judges not seeing the movies, they HAVE TO see the movies it's in the rules. Ok, as for it being a bit hyped up and americanised, then yes I agree with that. To the Peter Jackson point, I too was going 'WHAT THE F*CK??' when Ron Howard went up there. So I'm hoping this year PJ's film does get the recognition it well deserves and he next year for the film he has always already dubbed his fav! Chicago I thought was infact a fantastically done film and I loved it so I think that it does deserve all the credit it gets. Then agian, there is a bit of suspision circling it too.

As for what film I'd like to recieve an Oscar, I would really really like to see DONNIE DARKO get some recognition as that film just blew me away, also the film O with Josh Hartnett deserves a look in too. Then to get to my more mainstream choice SPIDERMAN!!! 8)

There we go, my own self obnioxos choices and views.

In my opinon, TTT should not win best picture. There were so many movies that are more deserving of the award. TTT was a great film, but not the best of the year.

Ice Age or XXX better win atleast one oscar.

TTT should win in everything that it's been nominated in, but I will predict it won't win in the following catagories: Best Picture, and Best Sound.

XXX.... is that a new porno? :P

I hated XXX too. Maybe it's Vin Diesel. Maybe it's because even though it had lots of 'action', it was still boring as hell.
