SDnet Chatroom?

Could we make this happen? I set one up for SCN using an IRC program (mIRC, to be exact). It got some speed, but kind of died out from lack of support though. There were rarely more than 2 or 3 people in the room at once. But, I think it would work here. There are always alot of members online, and I think that it would be easy to get a pretty good debate chat going here.

Mike, would you be willing to put one up on sd.net? If not, I could set one up and register it for you using IRC.

Just an offer to set it up if anyone wants it.

BTW, I never have seen this brought up recently...

It's been brought up before. The answer is no, no, no.

It's been about a month.
Then another time a month before that....

Aww, why not...

Much more efficient than a board, instant results to postings and such.

And chaos because everyone's talking at once.

Chat rooms fail because the reason of their speed.

Everyone is on, literally no one knows who's talking to who and it gets outlandishly chaotic

An IParty is pretty fun though, if it's only for fun. Text and voice chatting. :D

A chat room wouldn't work for debates. If you think the flamewars here can get bad, imagine if you could react instantly to a flame from another member. On the other hand, having a chat room might cut down the number of spam posts in the forums, as all the chatty stuff could happen in real time.

Assuming we actually did get together on IRC, what network/lone server would we use?

Not DALnet. They're being blasted with a DDoS attack right now. Most of their servers are down.

Even if they weren't down, they've got autokills on alot of broadband providers.

If anyone really wanted I could try talking a favour out of some friends and get a room set up on a server...but I doubt participation would be much....even with 2000 active members in the SWC (Star Wars Combine) the number of people in the chatroom only ever hit a max of about 75 and the average was below 20 in my days as an Chan Op there....thats an average of ~1%.
Chatrooms cause more hassle than they are worth for some things, they are good for RP's, very bad for debates and somewhat amusing for watching lame little idiots trying to be l337.

I use WyldRyde.

Tell ya what, I will go ahead and set up and register one.

It will be on the irc.wyldryde.net server with the name #sdnet

I am assuming everyone who would want to join has an IRC access proggie. If you don't, and want to participate, get mIRC, it is about the best out there, if a bit complicated at times.

From my experience as a Chan Op for the SWC and the fun I had there when Op wars broke out....I can recommend team nex-gen's Acidmax More features than you can shake a star destroyer at.

if people keep bringing it up, then obviously there is some demand for it.

to make it viable there would have to have a low limit of users per room...like a max of 20 or so. And i really think it would greatly reduce the number of dating advice and best orgasm threads

Ahhh...
Chat room invasions...
Some online friends and I invaded an stitching and embroidery chat room, and a Battlefleet gothic chat room when our old one was temporarily down. It was fun 8)

Well, I have just registered it on irc.wyldryde.net under the name #sdnet. Earlier, solvent and keevan joined in. Lets set a time when we all can get in there, have a big huge flame-fest or something, LOL.
