Are yout hot?: The search for America's sexiest men and women on ABC
Just the simple premise of the show makes me sick. 'Are You Hot' makes Survivor look like a PBS show...

Not really. I've been expecting the US to finally admit it shallow views of appearance on the air for years. Doesn't surprise me at all.

Anyone ever hear about that proposed reality show, "The Real Beverly Hillbillies?" Yeah, they get a family of hicks and put them in a mansion. Excuse me while I go kill myself.

That's hardly a new low with the likes of Man vs Beast, Joe Millionare and Temptation Island. In general television is going to down the tubes fast and only the premium stations and a few cable networks even attempt to produce shows of consistant quality. The problem is they cater to the stupid, heathen masses. And said stupid, heathen masses eat that crap up.

What will stop these stupid heathen masses?
Jesus? Guns? A federal budget for the education system that actually works?

I wouldn't evenHAVEa TV (save for video games) if I didn't have Sci-Fi channel. An dI wouldn't even have Sci-Fi channel unless it had Farscape and SG-1 on it. Everything else I need I can find in literature or the internet. I abandoned all faith in most television long ago anyways...

To be honest, I'm kinda interested in seein the end of
Joe Millionare, at least for the sole purpose in seeing just how the woman he chooses reacts to the knowledge he's actually poor. A dollar and a baked potato says she freaks out, declares she doesn't give a shot about him, and runs off like the 'Who Wants to Marry a Millionare' chick. Ahh, loves comes and goes so easilly.

No, the worst is "Married by Amercia."
It seems similar to the old Love Connection or the Dating Game, but people all over the nation call in, and you don't just go out with their pick, but you have to marry them.
Is it just me, or does the idea of people putting their love life in the hands of people who think this is a good idea scare the shit outta you, too?

Nothing. America, and Western Culture in general, has turned into a coddle them culture. Until we start producing people that can appreciate good acting, good writing, and intriguing premises then we'll get crap. A person that never thinks period isn't going to appreciate a Babylon 5 or a Sopranos. It makes them feel stupid when so much goes over their head so the watch Joe Millionare. They can understand it and feel superior to them instead of feeling rewarded when they see a brilliant peice of foreshadowing or witty dialogue.
It's all bread and circuses now.

Numerous magazines already publish lists of top 10's or top 100's, and hell National Geographic is doing a special swimsuit edition. This is not a suprising turn of events.

They got some pretty neat shows over there. Not this reality shit, but acutal
scripted shows. Perhaps I should move back over to my homeland,er,
island.

I'd say it's a low for ABC. FOX has sunk far lower with "Married by America", and "Temptation Island", and I'm sure they'll take "Are you Hot" and make it worse.
I think we need an IQ test to buy TV sets. Then, they'll be no demand for crap like that.

It rises like a tide, then lowers. It only crumbles if we get a nuclear war on our hands.

Comedy Central hasn't escaped the reality TV bit, with Insomniac and Travel Sick. Travel Sick is as dull as dirt, but at least Insomniac takes a viable principle and makes fun of it, rather than taking a stupid principle and trying to take it seriously.
I read a recent article online that indicates there are at least 20 more reality shows in the works. They have to make a ton of them since no one watches reruns, but they're so cheap per episode, somewhere between $500K to $700K each.
