Hi. I'm having a shitty day. Just need to let off some steam... I started to over in the clubhouse, but I need to list out in detail (just to make myself feel better) why I'm so pissed right now.

1) I'm ready to kill my kids. Some of the ones I've been teaching for YEARS have started to act like pricks over the past months because there's some pissant little hotshot kid who thinks he can boss me around because he doesn't have to listen to a chick percussionist because obviously I'm inferior to him. How can a girl play drums? Anyway, some of the good ones have gotten swept up with this kid and I want to hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt him. Today they gave me fucking lip and banded together like idiots, so I tore them apart but am still so fucking hurt that these good kids have turned to the dark side.

2) Some people have been taking advantage of me lately and use me to vent about their problems and then never fucking ask me how I'M doing, because who the fuck cares about that? They just care about themselves and what I can do to make their life easier. Fuck that. Fuck them. I don't need them; I don't need anyone.

3) The guy I'm currently interested in seems to be only distantly aware that I am alive. Ok, so I exaggerate a bit, but things aren't going as well as I thought they were only a day or so ago...

4) This fucking piece of shit program called 'Finale' for music notation is totally SCREWING UP MY FUCKING BRASS ENSEMBLE PIECE AND IT'S CHEWED UP HOURS OF MY TIME SO FAR AND I HAVEN'T MADE ANY PROGRESS ON IT AT ALL!! And I can't even ask anyone for help because no one around here uses Finale, and my friend Jon who happens to be online now tried to help me but it's being all stupid and glitchy and it's not letting me do what I need to do and I'm just really amazingly FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW!!!!

I'm having trouble controlling the VOLUME OF MY VOICE, can you tell? *half smile*

Anyway, I'm pissed off. It's probably best if no one even responds to this, because if you say, 'Oh, I'm so sorry, doesn't that suck,' I'll probably just bite your head off right now anyway.... Not for any reason, just because I'm a bitch right now.

I hate kids as well. My advice is a nice good run, followed by some Earl Grey tea, and some nice relaxing music.

Ah, young male percussionists with ego issues, they exist in a completely different universe than the rest of us.

If you really want to let of some steam, you could go to the test board and spam likes crazy... It helps me, at least.

I'll lend you my guitar and you can beat the shit out of whoever's pissing you off with it.

Charisma can carry the little bastard only so far, give him a good smackdown day in, day out, and your other kids will come around.

Yeah, right. Chicks can't be percussionists? Tell that to Beth Radock-Gottlieb. She's a musician-in-residence at Rollins college, and plays mallets better than anyone else I know. Out of curiosity, does your school zone allow referrals for "gross insubordination"? Sometimes the law must be laid down (figuratively speaking). The band I work with had that problem this year until about 10 kids got kicked out. Then the rest straightened up (mostly). And the band I most closely relate to, due to my line being split and my friends going to the new school, has 2 female drummers as Captains. They're a second-year school that finished 4th at BOA Regionals, and won two competitions this year, in Gainesville and St. Augustine. Anyone who claims women can't play percussion is an idiot.

Sorry, but nobody I know uses Finale. Everyone locally has switched to Sibelius. I still handwrite whenever I do music, since I can't afford music programs. Took me something like 20 hours just to write a cadence with 6 basses and 4 cymbals, plus snare and quint.

Hey, you gotta vent every now and then. If you're going to flame anyone, I've already got the asbestos suit out and ready . I'm not going to comment on 2 or 3, since I don't know much about those sorts of things, but I'm always willing to talk music and the idiocy of band kids (as opposed to band geeks, who actually do what's right in band class).

Zaia, take solace in the knowledge that the little whelp's attitude will likely get him into trouble in the future. If he continues with this behavior, get back at him psychologically. Don't know how, but hopefully you'll be able to come up with something.

I'm sorry to hear about your lousy day, Zaia. Teenaged boys trying to prove their manhood can be as irritating as a root canal without anesthetic, and software that won't do what you want comes a close second.

Yes, well, these are high school boys. And the one in particular thinks that he's better than EVERYONE, not just me. But he's made comments under his breath about how I simply can't be as good as he is because I'm female. He knows I can play; he just lives in this dreamworld where he thinks he can play rings around me. Shame it's actually the other way around.

I've tried Sibelius and I think it blows. It was a while ago, so maybe it's better now, but the entry palette fucking sucked and it was glitchier than Finale. Everyone I know has Finale; they just have the 2003 version (I have 2002). It's just that they're all in bed and/or not online hardly ever, so I have a limited amount of resources to go to for help.

Hmm....my chorus teacher has a very unique way of dealing with idiots that disrupt the class. He isolates them by making them stand up (while the rest sit down, of course) so that they are out in the open to watch and can't do anything. And if they are really acting like morons, he makes them sing in front of everyone. Of course, you can't do that to...oh wait you can. Nah, but you should try something similar. I don't know exactly how...but you should come up with a unique way of isolating this "hotshot." Umm....I mean...it's not embarassing to play the drums alone in front of everyone, but it is embarassing to sing in front of everyone. It's the only reason why it works. Hmm...I really can't think of anything else. Maybe you should pick a really hard percussion piece to keep him occupied. When he starts screwing it up, have him come after class to practice it with you. Do SOMETHING within your power to get him to stop being a jackass. Have you tried anything like this?

Switch him from drums to the clarinet.
