Thanks alot, Icehawk: you and Hemlock took a walk off to the HoS, and you brought the whole damn thread with you! :P

And Hemlock: Ah, Hiroshima. I was wondering WTF anime had to do with the holocaust. So basically this guy thought it was an American animated film about Hiroshima based on it being dubbed? One: since when did the US make any animated cartoons besides kids' stuff or cheap impersonations of cheap Japanese action flicks (Aeon Flux, for a good, pathetic example)? And two: Stuff gets dubbed, whoop-de-do. He was either being a really stupid elitist by saying that only 'real' anime is subbed (get over it, I'd say. Some people like dubs), or he's a dumbass who doesn't realize that, surprise surprise, anime is sold in the US and gets dubbed.

I hate ignorant eletists like that; they barge into conversations just to say "Aw, look, they watch crappy stuff, isn't that so elite? OMG, seriously dudes, I thought you were just lame poseurs, but now I know you're hardcore elite who watches crappy stuff. now i have to tell you you're lame even though I act like I don't care. And I would never call you 'real' fans, that might imply you actually don't suck." Proceeded my alot of high-and-mighty bullshit.

Well, what do you expect from someone who doesn't even know what to call the medium?

Loooong story, dude. Started with Hemlock making poor flamebait, and I had to call him on it, then I had to remind VF5SS about his error, then it kinda went down from there.

I tell you, some days it feels like I'm some kind of janitor who has to fix all the place's toilets after people keep clogging them with bull shit. :?

So, does anyone actually want to bother talking about garage-kit nude figures still, or are we still discussing one of the related tangent topics?

I thought I still was.....Any how , I really don't have a problem with nude anything , as long as its not nude sexualized children. That was the whole semantical aspect of this entire discussion was weather the Rei fig in question was a kid still or supposed to be a woman. I still feel repelled by it because my only context for the character of Rei Ayanami is that of a 14 year school girl, not as an adult woman. Its a pervasive aspect of a lot of Anime, especially hentai , that many of the characters are protrayed as being over the age of consent , but realized in a very child like form. I know much of it has to do with Japans very odd 'no visible pubic hair' obsenity law, but it still often makes me queasy.

I just looked through the link finally.

Hold on, is there only *one* figure that's nude? Casue that's all I could find. A lot of the other look familar; just your run-of-the-mill, garage-kit collecter's resin kits. And for all we know, that one is done by another company, since the site only lists the kits (even then not accurately. WTF is with the indians?)

Come on, there are alot more things you could be ragging on about than one figure. If that's the problem, for the love of god don't do a web search for "American furry porn fanfiction"

Actually, the "No Pubic Hair Law" (which was more of a rule than a law, anyway) is no longer in effect, and was retired within the last five years, I think.

A few years ago a Japanese adult magazine publisher decided to just start ignoring the law, publishing an adult art magazine where pubic hair was clearly shown in the photographs (with genitals still censored or not in view, of course). Their defense was that they weren't publishing mere pornography, but art, which should have no such restriction.

The Japanese government soon quietly retired the law with little fanfare or commotion from the public. The genital censoring law is still in effect, but I don't see that as being that big of a deal.

Now that you mention it, that Rei model might look a little more developed and shapely then she appeared in the series and films, as if she was older. But I'm not 100% sure of that, but I just thought I'd suggest it, considering that the kit is part of a series of GAiNAX products relating to a specific product of theirs.

Frankly, things don't look all that smoky right now. If this trend continues I'll move it back.

I know someone else who uses the term "Japanimation": anime characters. I shit you not. In Excel Saga episode number...16, I think it was, titled "Animation USA!" some characters do, indeed, refer to it as Japanimation

But was it from the original Japanese or something the translators threw in there?

I wouldn't be surprise given ADV is well known for taking liberties(sp) with the script for Dubs and subs. On the otherhand Excel Saga is known for that type of stuff in the show.

Eva question; any one know why ADV didn't subtitled Asuka's phone conversation (in German) to her adopted parents? :?:

Yeah, most likely they threw it in there, though it's possible they felt it should be there to give the proper connotation they were looking for. sometimes you have to go out on a limb to convey the same meaning.

At least it's not Manga Entertainment: "What else can you say about a distributor that can't even pronounce its own name?"

Probably because it wasn't subbed in the original Japanese. Providing the viewer with meaning to the conversation, when Shinji didn't, kinda ruins the whole point of him hearing her talking in another language. It would add a useless layer of separation that wasn't originally present.

Whoops, didn't see that.

But was it from the subtitles, or the Japanese dialogue? Sometimes the differences between them are as big as the ones between the subtitle script and the dub, you know. If it's from the dialogue, I'd chalk it up to using Random English Phrases.

Dialogue. It's in the subtitles of the ADV official sub and the Slow As Hell Anime fansub (which I got off KaZaA), and it'd be easily recognizable even in raw form. (Did think the pronunciation was a bit funny, though; stress on the "ma" rather than the "pan.")

I was just comparing my old Subs of Gall Force/Char's Counter Attack & the Fist of the Northstar movie (From when I was in High School) with the current cartoon network version. Hmm, should I dig out my old copies of Dominion Tank Police, Akira, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, and Dirty Pair Project Eden, to compare with the recent versions...

err, while I'm at it, should I even try getting subs for those three Tapes of Lemons that my buddy Chris gave me back when we were 18 and Seniors in High School?

That would be 12 hours of Creamy Lemons Spanky

remember this is from 15 years ago when I was still a High School Senior, and I have no idea what's being said as my Japanese comprehension only allows me to understand one word out of 20 or so....

The fact that I found my High School Anime & Porn collections in storage when I went home for a funeral back in July came as an Ironic suprise....

Creamy Lemon is a lolita hentia series. Most of the episodes feature underage girls.

Of all odd things Anime , I have yet to fully understand the whole Demon/Rape genre of film and manga.......is this some pervasive myth in Japan , or is it just fucked up to be fucked up ?

It's just really messed up. I don't think Japan has any tenticle demons or multi-penised monsters in their myths and legends...

It's just an expansion on the rape fantasy. I'm sure the West has similar stuff where women are raped by monsters or animals.
