How long do you think the SD.net BBS will be up?

Also, two more questions:
1. What will cause the board to go down indefinately?
2. How long will you be posting here?

Don't know, don't know, and until the very end.

No clue, but I'll be here until the very end.

At least over ten years, and I'll probably be here for that time, sometimes more involvd and perhaps at times less so. Basically, as long as Mike wants to keep at this. If he gets tired of it (yeah, right) or too caught up in other things (like....? He seems to balance life with this pretty well.)
If, God forbid, something should happen to Mike, I'm sure there'd be some sort of system where someone else assumes command, although it would be hard to deal with something like that at first. I don't know who the "Second in Command" is here but as intellectual property, it'd be covered in a Will. It is safe to assume that this cold hard day is a long ways off, though.
But the tradiion would continue, with institutional memory instilled in the flamewariors that remain...
I hate thinking about this...

I'll be here for some time, as my life is pretty balanced. I'm guessing at least 5-10 years at least, sometimes less involved, sometimes more, blah blah. Hopefully this board will live for at least 3 years.

I've been on ASVS for well over three years now, and will be on here until the end. Which, I believe, will be in the far future.

Until Wong dies, but then somebody will hopefully continue his legacy.
I'm hoping 10+ years.

[jock]What legacy?
It's a bunch of nerds 'gathering around a computer to dispute wheather the Borg could beat the vorlons.

I really don't know who would continue this site. Does Wong have anyone in mind already?

I think it'll be up until Shrubby's thugs order it shut down as a gathering place for dissenters or until the board grows to the point that the bandwidth costs requried to keep the board operating exceed what Wong's prepared to pay out or can raise from the membership.

I'm sure Darth Wong takes IMMENSE pleasure in seeing eveyone speculating on his death.
This board shall never die. In the future, after OBL has obliterated western civilization, we'll be throwing messages tied to rocks at each other. And so shall our children, and their children, ad infinitum.

I'm not going anywhere. This site will endure as long as people are willing to pay to keep it here, maintain it, and there is interest in its existance.

You mean the total abolishment of all sanity in the universe and the begining of the apocalypse.....
Yep that'd do it....

1. Wong admitting Darkstar is right thus causing a chain reaction that will obviously destroy all logic in the universe.
2. Till the end of the board's life.

If we ever did run into any sort of financial problems, I'm fairly sure that there are at least a few members that would be willing to send the occasional donation or two.
Afterall, it happened for GundamWatch.

Once you accept the fact that spacetime is curved, you'll understand that this board will have no end.

I may not stay till the end, but I'd place a minimal life of 5-10 years.

Well, what's the oldest BBS on the Internet as of now? I want to know, to get an idea of how long a sucessful BBS might last.
I really don't see any reason (unless we're hacked) that this board couldn't go on for more than 5 years. SB has been around for almost 4, if I'm correct. Also, we are quite active, and as long as there's sci-fi, they'll be something to talk about, and even after that, we would still have discussions on science, morality, and ejaculation distance. I'd say the only thing that could stop us is gettingh hacked (and I'm sure we could find a way around that), or everyone losing interest in the board (I don't find that very likely, either.
