Here's more on the story from the BBC:

I realize that the victim's families are howling for restitution but is there any proof that Saudi royal family or Bin Laden's family construction firm were bankrolling Al_Qaeda?

Saudi Arabia has tens of billions of dollars in capital reserves in American banks. That could be seized and paid out to the Victims if they win. The problem with suingCastro, amoung other things, was that there was nothing of his to seize.

Acutal he had money in accounts in American friendly naitions however the problem it the same principle as if Russia Seized a say a Destroyer Refuling at a Russia Port, ITS AN ACT OF WAR
Ecnomic but war none the less, And like Castro we don't have the legale right to demand payment for things unless we do it by force

Furthermore since the Ruling Family is just that the Ruling Family that have control over the Contries Afars and what does SA have control over?

Why US War-Materal, Bases they would need for any Iraq Strikes oh yes and OIL Which while not a as huge blow would quickly kick our Econ right in the privates when its in the exact position it does not NEED that thing most likley throwing us into a Depression

Not sure about the king, but theres a crap load to support the suit, which is actualy against several princes, not the King. So it doesnt matter.

As for assets seizing being an act of war. America has done it several times before against Libya and I believe Syria. Assets were frozen, then later seized and sold and the funds paid out to those who sued.

We didn't end up at war with either one afterword.

As for Saudi Arabia, annoy the USA and in two months 70% of there military its out of action, and there heading towards bankruptcy. They're totally dependent on oil exports to keep their economy afloat.

The US can meet all of its oil needs buying from non-OPEC nation currently, and that’s what we'd do. Price increases would be minimal, and no were near enough to knock the United States into a Depression.

As for basing, there are almost no US troops or equipment left in Saudi Arabia. Over the past 6 months almost everything has been packed up and moved to Diego Garcia or Qatar and Oman.

For many Americans, the Saudi system of government is virtually incomprehensible (and even for many Saudis that I have met). Thus, it often strikes us as very strange that many of their princes have absolutely no say in the government, even though it is a monarchy. Saudi Arabia has thousands of princes. Many of them are government officials or important executives in business, but the majority of them are actually in the upper-middle class. These particular princes are relatively wealthy, but they lack the authority to either speak for the nation of Saudi Arabia, or even for their tribes. Although their monetary power is considerable, their political power in the country is negligable.

very true, they are increasingly in a real sense just figureheads, too afraid to move against extremists in their kingdom even if they want to.

they real power in Saudi Arabia is the extremist factions that control the increasingly fundamist population from what I heard, the saudi would be terrifed if the U.S. left and they can't defend themsevles against Iran/Iraq or their own internal enemies.

Not officaly, but considering both Nations Have less of an Army than some US States its no problem

Ossus there such a thing of having to grimance and take it, For example if we nuked say.... Kenya
What could Kenya do? Complaine? Libya and Syria did
Invade? With what?
Lanuch Nukes at us? They don't have any
Shell us? They don't have big enough guns...

SA however is in quite a position to toss our Econmeny from Tetering into the Abyss at will
And keep in mind though these Princes don't have Power the Militant Religious Leaders who see 9/11 as a gift from God and these Princes are the ones funding them right and helped Create 9/11?

What do you think will happen?

I think it does. Who are these princes and do they have clout in Saudi gov't? Master of Ossus indicates that the term "prince" in Saudi Arabia can point to someone in the upper-middle class in business or gov't. I believe if they had any part in the 9/11 tragedy then they should compensate the victims. However, I don't belive the Saudi gov't should have to pay for the actions of a few rotten apples.

Where are they going to get a trillion dollars from these people? And what will we do with the money? What will the rest of the world think?

Perhaps we can put the trillion dollars in a "lockbox", where is can be saved for when our great-grandkids retire.

Maybe it could be used in a proposed tax cut, to give TOm Daschale something to whine about.

It could be used to satitfy the U.N., and given as foreign aid, wherei t can be funneled into the pocketbooks of the people that run the nations we're giving it to.

It would be just enough to afford Starbuck coffee, though.

Such a sum o money would be enough to satisfy those Baseball player's "unions".

Perhaps we could have pity on the Middle East, and give them a dollar so they're not completely bankrupt.

Currently the number is around 600, and you have to expect the lawyers to take a good 25+%.

However 1.25 billion is still enough to hire quite a large private army to hunt down Osama on your own, or seize a moderate sized country.

Familes Sea-Skimmer Familes the way the suit is set up not even the most Anti-Everyone else on the planet Judge would give 1-Billion Dollers to every kid in the family plus the un-born ones, rather its per famailes why I said roughly 120ish, Now though its near 240 but still 4.6 Billion...
