Do birds have an orgasm?

Male birds would have to, duh.

Why, Spanky? Ejaculation could be accomplished without any sensations of any kind. I'd say that orgasm would certainly be a species survival trait (making them want to do it more often because it feels good), but it's not necessary.

I thought that orgasm was part of the trigger mechanism for ejaculation. That's basically why they happen at the same time.
I think that was why scientists and medical experts aren't exactly sure why women have orgasms, since they technically don't need to.

Dunno if there is any direct link between the two other than timing, but males can learn to orgasm without ejaculation, which would seem to put at least somewhat of a damper on the idea. If there isn't a direct link, it's still a good idea for them to be at least simultaneous, so the male doesn't pull out after orgasm but before ejaculation.

I remember seeing something once about the cervix dipping during orgasm, moving it into a position that would make it easier for sperm to enter it, depending on position.

I can't believe you were actually sitting at your computer thinking if birds have orgasms.

Hmm, I'll have to see what the World's Smartest Man (Cecil Adams) has to say about this over at the Straight Dope...

Warning: the following is nothing more than a guess: The actual physical pleasure from an orgasm may be an evolutionary trait; it would be an incentive to have sex, and thus increase the chances of having children.

I thought we had already pretty much guessed that. It does seem rather logical to conclude that.

Hey, it's okay as long as you're not getting one thinking about it.

Here is a chatlog of how I explained it to one of my friends.
Uraniun233 (9:50:17 PM): well my mind was wandering... first I was looking out the window seeing if I could see the squirrels that live in our back yard.
Uraniun233 (9:50:19 PM): i couldn't
Uraniun233 (9:50:26 PM): and I wondered what it would be like to live life as an animal
Uraniun233 (9:50:33 PM): "pretty pointless", I thought
Uraniun233 (9:50:39 PM): just gathering food and stuff
Uraniun233 (9:50:52 PM): but then I thought "it'd be cool to be a bird, fly around, great scenery, that kind of thing"
Uraniun233 (9:51:02 PM): then I thought "animals have reproduction to look forward to"
Uraniun233 (9:51:15 PM): and that's how I came to think "i wonder if birds can orgasm"

Ditto.... I can't believe I read through this to post. Not that it's shocking, or even stupid. It's just sooo out there. Then again, I have an idea for Worst. Thread. Ever.

Why would birds have sex if it wasn't pleasurable?

Even if it is pleasurable for a bird, it doesn't necessarily mean they orgasm.

Instinct?

Because its their nature. Anyhow I seem to remember hearing that the only animals that have sex purely for pleasure are dolphins and humans ( and Spanky fits in both categories
.) But I think I speak for us all when I ask, why the hell does it matter?

Perhaps Uranium is considering a species-change of some sort?
You know, like a sex change, but...a...species...change.......

D'ya get it?
Huh?
Do ya?

The only thing stranger would be inter-species sex---oh wait, we already have that.

So I suppose they eat because it is instinct instead of fulfilling a craving. The instinct is a result of eating satisfying their craving.

You're technically right, even though my sig denies it.

First off WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT?!
Why the heck would you want to KNOW that? I mean, is it some kind of sick fantasy to think of a bird having an orgasm? Or is it some perverted biology project?
What the heck?
