Well, as long as The Great/Dear Leader lives and remains in North Korea he really can't lose much of anything.

"We shall win nuclear war!" he said, with one arm raised up in the air, with the other deep in his pants.

How can you win nuclear war? Is that even possible? Generally when nukes are flying aroundeveryonedies.

Actually, you can, kind of...

At least on a piece of paper and with some risk.

Let's say the North Koreans got five nukes that can reach the US, OK? They say that if the US tries anything on them, they'd shoot them off. Given how unstable that Kim character is, it might even be convincing, if they can convince the US analysts those weapons work.

Let's say the US tries anyway. They fire one at the US. It hits someplace like Seattle. They give the warning again. It is at least conceivable that the US public will be scared enough to want peace. In any case, the appropriate response politically will not be to unload an entire SSBN's warload or more in retaliation.

So they might just get away with nuking Seattle. In theory anyway.

Like hell.

If an american city gets nuked, the American public will be satisifed with nothing less than that complete glassing of Pyongyang.

If a US city is nuked, the citizens would demand a NK city in exchange. Or at least send the most massive B-52 / B-1 / B-2 convential bombing mission the world has ever seen.

May I point out to you that US Stragtagy is not to consult the American public at all but rather go to the Sitting President and he's given options(One City to completle Glassification) and then he exerisies then, Idealy all within a one hour period

Somehow I don't see the Pres's stoping to get a UN Resoultion before Unlease Nuclear Hell-Fire

If DPRK nuked an American city, the far left would try to find a way to blame it on Bush.

I believe the US response for any use of WMD is massive retaliation. "Let the balloon fly"

The DPRK is saber-rattling - nothing more, and nothing they've not done for the past 50 years. The only change is that they have nukes now, but saber-rattling is all they will do. N. Korea has nothing to gain by attacking anyone, however, they have much to gain by saber-rattling, scaring their neighbors, and blackmailing more aid from South Korea and western nations.
