I'm really annoyed at myself right now. Our Philosophy department brought down Dr. John Lachs from Vanderbilt to talk tonight about "The Enemies of Life." Quite interesting speech, very applicable to today's world, all on how to live in the best way possible. I got to eat lunch with him (three doctors, Dr. Lachs, and me, an undergrad ), talked with him for probably half an hour outside of the speech. Had some great quotes from him that I was going to use in my sig, and I FORGOT THEM .
If any of you find Dr. Lachs' books, I'd suggest at least looking at them. From his speech, he's a very pragmatic ethicist, and has an interesting perspective on the world. He's very much into learning lessons from the past and then not worrying about what happened, not worrying about the future. Fascinating fellow, and all of about 5'4". He is very much against traditional thought, saying that wealth is a good thing, since it's easier to give more to the poor when you have more than you could want (speaking specifically about the very rich). I'm going to be looking for some of his books now. I just wish I could remember that quote.

Why isn’t that ever an issue of politics? Because you don’t live in a democracy. You live in a plutocracy. Money rules.
