Do you guys remember this movie by Clint Eastwood? Such a beautifully made Western. Extremely gritty are the terms I would use to describe the ending. By the end of the movie I had my jaw down.

I own the DVD. A superb film. I love the scene after they kill the cowboy in the outhouse:

KID: I guess he had it comin'.
MUNNY (Clint): We've all got it comin', kid.

And of course, at the end:

LITTLE BILL: I don't deserve this. I'm buildin' a house!
MUNNY: Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

Hum, the final scene, when Clint leaves the city, promising to kill them all, is pure Clint Eastwood.
That one was just precious, it basically sumed up Munny's personality, and Clint's years of Western experience.

Awesome movie. Truly great. Damn, cold-blooded, son-of-a-bitch assassin. You could feel him changing when he started to drink again.

I liked the ending the best. VERY wonderfully done as Clint stands over his wife's grave and the sunset. *tears*

I liked the authenticity. My most favorite part is when Little Bill tells his posse to burn Munny down after he takes his shot, obviously hoping to psyche Munny out. And then the killer just squeezes the trigger, and *click*. Beautiful.

My favorite line was what Munny said right after he shot Skinny (the bartender), and Little Bill said: "You just killed an unarmed man!" Munny replied: "Well he should'a armed himself."

I also think Hackman deserved the best actor oscar he won. Most of the film, he's pretty amiable and seems like a guy you could like. But a couple of times he reveals what an absolutely cold hearted bastard Little Bill really is. Think of lines like these:

To Morgan Freeman, almost gently, after beating him nearly to death - "Those whores are gonna tell different lies than you. And when their lies ain't the same as your lies... Well, I ain't gonna hurt no woman; I'm gonna hurt you. Only not gentle, like before."

To Richard Harris, looking him straight in the eye - "You were right not to take it Bob. I would'a killed ya."

"I take it you're William Munny, murderer of women and children."

"That's right. I've killed everything that walks or crawls at one time or another ... and I'm here to kill you, Little Bill. For What you did to Ned."

Mony: ...And you better bury Ned right! Or I'll come back and kill all you sons of bitches!

Lightening flashes.. Thunder explodes...

A superb Eastwood ending!

The Outlaw Josey Wales one of the best.

His "Man With No Name" series is pretty good too. :D

I also kind of like the duo of High Plains Drifter & Pale Rider, although Pale Rider reminds me a bit too much of Shane.

I love it. Bought the special Edition DVD a couple months ago. I liked the part where the told the cowboys to give the dying man his damned water!

Here's hoping that "Heartbreak Ridge" gets a SE-DVD!

So he could hurry up and die, right? After all, you never drink water when you've been shot through the gut.

I seem to recall that one of the physiological effects of a stomach wound is unbearable thirst.

Yes indeedy. Your body thinks its loosing too much water and dehydrating. But giving water to a gut wound = NO GOOD.

Yeah, me too- I can't help but think there's something that says you're not supposed to drink anything despite this- buggered if I know really.

Makes you wonder why Tim Roth in Resevoir Dogs didn't whine for water tho. He was just a hard case I guess.

Actually, no. The scene worked because the shooters were showing compassion for a dying man crying out his last wish. His friends didn't want to move to him for fear of being shot.

I must tell my dad to get that on DVD, he loves it and can't believe it was a nineties western, they don't make 'em like that anymore.

Butch and the Kid is my fave and A Fistful of Dollars followed by The Magnificent Seven.

As for the stomach thing, I think it has something to do with the fact that if you drink anything or eat anything you will secrete acids and enzymes that will get to places you don't want them too, plus you dehydrate which may explain the thirst.

Beuchamp (the stupid author): "Usually, a skilled gunfighter will kill the most dangerous enemy first. How did you know which one to kill first?"

Munny: "I was lucky in the order. But then again, I've always been lucky when it comes to killing folks"

Excellent movie!

Munny: "You better bury Ned right! And you better not cut up or otherwise mistreat no whores. Or else I'll come back and kill all you sons of bitches!"

Yes, I know its been quoted, but its the best damn line in the movie!
