If it is they won't likely make it back. Ebola is a damn deadly little bug and if those dumb fuckers want to mess with it I can only hope it's a reston type strain.

There are a couple Ebola outbreaks every year. It has a high fear factor, but it doesn't spread easily enough to make a good bio weapon.

I don't think there are out breaks ever year, every few years maybe.

There was an oubreak of ebola in Kinsasha a few years ago, 1997 I think. They had it contained pretty quickly.

If I was a terrorist, the congo would be the LAST place I would want to go. There are something like five or six different factions going at each other in the congo, and it's home to the biggest civil war in Africa. You don't exactly stay hidden very long in a disease ridden combat zone.

There was one in Gabon and another in the Congo in 2002, another in Gabon in 2001, one in Uganda in 2000-2001 as well. In 1999 it struck in the Congo once again and in Sudan. Nothing in 1998, but in 1997 and 1996 there where out breaks in Gabon. I'm sure I've missed one or tow, and it streches back longer then I've listed.

Mabey not a couple every year, but certinly at least once every year we have Ebola active.

Remember that loony cult that gassed the subway in japan, they had tried to get there hands on it, I'm sure that Bin Laden will make a grab for it, if your will to die for your cause and you have a chance to gain a bio weapon with no cure to use on your enemy would you not take the chance to gain it?

I wouldn't put it past some of the rabid Islamic terroist's out there. But most people will have more sense than going over there. Course, terroist's are rabid.

But rabid islamic terrorists are also smart enough not to go waltzing into the middle a 5 side civil war that they have no stake in...

Just my two cents. I think they'd like to get their hands on the stuff, I just don't think they have the capabilities to get it transported out of Africa without either inadvertantly causing an outbreak or getting caught.

Also, alot of them are only rabid when they have oppotunities to die gloriously killing scores of their enemy. Getting killed by a nasty disease isn't exactly the kind of death these guys have in mind, so they might have reservations about actually hands-on playing with the stuff.

Trust me there are nastier bugs running around.

Every year Squirrels and other rodents have to have their numbers greatly curtailed in order to prevent a certain Dark Ages pest from making a comeback.

Except that rhyme is a modern invention, a song for kids' dances. We were speaking Middle English when the Black Death occured:

Anyway, the actual extremely short lifespan of Ebola, not to mention it's extreme contagiousness, would make it quite worthless as a bioweapon.

Ebola is too lethal to make a good bio-weapon. I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but Ebola often kills all the available hosts before it has achance to spread. Even out in the Congo, shit hole that it is, local health services can often contain an outbreak within two to three days.
