Fixing a Plasma for Dummies

I hope this counts as science, if not please move appropriately.
We have a Samsung 42" Plasma that has packed it in. After being in and out of the repair shop for an issue with the tuner (which I don't think was really a repair issue, I think Samsung tuners just suck) one day the screen just packed it in. Still have sound, but no picture at all. Since it was still under warranty we got a credit and bought a different TV... but because someone couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery, we were left with the bombed TV as well.
So, I was wondering if anyone knows of any simple issues with Plasma TVs that I could fix myself, or even have a repair person fix for me if I pointed out the problem? Since we're not really supposed to have the TV and the serial number is logged with the registered repair company, I was hoping to not have to take it anywhere to get it looked at unless it was something simple and cheap. I have already had the back off and I checked the fuses (well, the ones that came out, anyway) but they were fine. Does anyone know of anything else I can check?
Otherwise, I'm resorting to this.
