[RANT]Damn LCD screens...

Ok, I've just been forced to get one LCD screen, and frankly, it sucks. Resolution is crap; Verdana looks almost translucent at size 10. Contrast blows, and no matter how much I mess with the settings, it looks the same. Brightness is ok after adjusting it a little, but the framerate is painfully obvious when I turn on my screensaver...
Only good thing about the screen is that it saves space...

Did you get one of the cheeper ones, or do they just suck in general?

May i say this, if your forced to get one GET A FRIGGIN DECENT ONE. If you cannot afford to do this, then find a reason to foce it off yourself. BTW why were you forced to get one?

Gah, my sig looks messed up too with the stupid color balance.

Funny, I saw one at the local print shop at nearly a right angle and it looked pretty good.
I think you just got a cheep one, personally.

Hmm...my friend has a pair of MAG LCDs. They were 600 a pop...gotta pay the dough for quality.

I probably pay attention to detail...
All LCD screens I've seen pale in comparison to the regular flat-screens...

Yours didn't come in a cow-box, did it?

That's pretty much true, but any CRT monitor is a heat-generating monstrosity to be honest.

CRT screens can multi-sync on different frequencies and resolutions, while LCD screens have a fixed resolution. That is a huge pain in the ass, although LCD screens certainly do look nice and sleek.

I put my palm next to the screen, and its warm...
The resolution looks a lot better now that I took off the plastic cover it had (Yeah, stupid me), but color depth and contrast still needs work...

Plastic cover? May I have permission to laugh at you?
Yes, almost all electronics generate heat, but CRTs actually get pretty hot.

My old CRT wasn't hot at all...
I didn't think the plastic cover would make much of a difference. Its one of those things that are supposed to guard against static...

so... stop teasing us... which make/model did you get, and how much $ did you shell out for it?
and as an aside, the best LCD screens are currently the larger samsungs, hitachi's and sonys...

Since monitors produce much more heat than they do light, you can approximate heat output by simply looking at power input.

Exonerate: LCDs have a different color gamut and gamma (contrast) than CRTs. It's not possible to compensate for the gamut but its generally possible to fix the gamma so images designed for CRTs don't look washed out. Look under the advanced display settings for a gamma correction option and adjust it until things look as you like.

I soooooo await the day of carbon-nanotube based monitors...Though I must say that Mike's polymer idea is incredibly interesting (From a long time ago, he described electronics that could be made like a cloth, rolled up and carried with your,
)

He got a crappy one.
NEVER get an LCD with a DP of less than .25, yes, they cost a good bit more, but they're worth it, they're also usually faster than the others so there won't be much of a ghosting problem on DVD playback and FPS gaming.

Yeah, but which one?
