When this comp crashed, I was stuck with an ancient comp running Windows95 with a 28-k modem. Ugh. A 56k is MUCH better.

You have me beat on the average conection speed (I have 50 kps), but since I use AOL dial-up, I beat you on drop-outs. Try every damn 20 minutes.

What is meant by drop-out?
I get...

45.2-50.6 kbps on a dialup, but my dropouts ... on a bad day, it'll happen no sooner than I had hooked up!

Yeah my first Drop out happens during the loading process (When first dialing out)
after that they are about an hourly occurance.

Holy shit that's bad.
My average is about 48 with a 56k modem, every two hours the isp resets the connection but it's a simple case of just redialing....it's really annoying but for free...it's livable with....

We used to have a 22kps BT Internet connection with a 30 minute drop out. Now, thank dad, we have 24hr ISDN acess on Clara.net. which has only dropped out twice in 4 months to my knowledge

Drop-out is where a dial-up connection disconnects itself.

"Take it closer, Yes I said closer to those Aol users and dns them at point blank range!"
"At that range our filters won't last long against that magnitude.."

Yeah, so does NPS administration, why WE have broadband why should YOU have a problem. Oh it will be at least 3-5 years before we allow the Valley to be connected.

Captain Tycho-I'll happily take whatever faster connection you're willing to pay for

I doubt you could afford the one I got. Try 50 bucks a month for a top-of-the-line DSL and unlimited access, with a TON of extra shit. Totally worth it too. ( Of course, my cousin works there, so I get 70% off...

Most Dsl connections are seriously reliable these days....what's the point if it don't work after all?...the dearer services aren't nessicarily the best though, where one gives good service...there's always one that would give better eventually...

Is that 50 Bucks before or after the 70% come off? If before, that's about what I would pay here, if it's after-ouch
And I'm not shelling out that much money for a connection I'll for all practical purposes only use on weekends. Working for an IT company
does have fringe benefits

50 bucks is the base price. I get 70% off of 50 bucks man. That less than what you would pay for a dial-up connection.
Tremble, dial-up users, before my Internet Line Supremo!

Same boat as Verilon and Yosemite Bear, but dropouts are...inconsistant. Sometimes I can go 4 hours no problem, sometimes every 20 minutes. IT SUCKS! Fucking Qwest.

I use dial-up AOL and I ocassionally drop out. It helps that AOL 8.0 has an auto-reconnect feature. A lot of the time when it drops out I'm not even aware of it as the program reconects itself. Since I run Netscape over AOL it generally doesn't interupt my SD.NET experience. IE: It doesn't cause everything to be marked read.

How much does your dial up cost over there?....yeesh. It's a tenner a month...no phone call charges here
