I was flipping channels, and found some sort of Retro-Modern film with Anthony Hopkins in it.

It appears these two asshole princes raped this girl, her father kill them, and feeds them too their parents, the Girl's father then kills the queen and him and the king kill each other.

So what happens next. They wait till the rape victim has the kid, and they execute her for her father's "Treason" and crown her baby?

errm-first of all, WTF?

Second of all does anyone know what this Is????

It's a very, very badly done version of Shakespeare's play Titus Andronicus. This version is named Titus. Hopkins, of course, turns in a fine performance, as you'd expect, but the director just fucking had to make it all artsy fartsy, modernistic crap. It's Shakepeare meets MTV-style, Generation X filmaking, and makes me want to vomit. When will these "artists" learn that you don't re-interpret Shakespeare for fuck's sake? There is a reason this stuff is classic.

When I was living in Ireland, I saw a series of BBC produced Shakespeare plays broadcast. They were all done in the early 80s I think. Titus Andronicus was one of them, with the title character being played by an actor named Trevor Peacock, who was excellent in the role. The play is grim to say the least. I love the part where Titus captures the two princes who earlier raped his daughter, then cut off her hands and cut out her tongue. Just before he cuts their throats, he tells them he's going to grind up their bones, mix the powder with the blood to make a paste, bake it into a couple of pies and feed their remains to their own mother. He then proceeds to do exactly that. My eyes were bugging out as I watched this play on TV. This was Shakespeare that they passed over when I was in high school English.

This doesn't really belong in SLAM. So Off Topic it goes.

Oh, did you watch the Measure for Measure BBC effort? The guy who voices the war series, Battlefield, plays the Duke in that. Very weird to see him talking in the Shakesperean tongue rather than speaking of T-34 advances. ;)

I prefer a sexual innuendo Bard: As you like it, Midsommer's Night, Much Ado about Nothing, The Taming of the Shrew, A comedy of Errors

etc.

Julius Ceaser is top carrot!

No Shakespeare play is as cool as Julius Caesar, the speeches by those two bitches after Julius’s death. People committing Suicide in the middle of Battles that whole madness about the 'ides of March' (every time somebody asks me if the pigeons in Leeds are fat I tell them to 'beware the ides of March', in fact I tell pretty much everyone to beware the ides of March).

But I also think it is a particularly easy play to like, some Shakespeare is very difficult to get into (Midsummer nights dream performs so much oral sex on rectal passages that the Sexual harassment Panda would have a field day) but almost everyone that reads Julius Caser from what I can tell ends up loving it.
