Im sure the servicemen of this board would love to lecture you on how much work it is to be solider. I sure as hell couldn't do what they do.

Yeah, digging ditches, shooting cardboard targets, running around following silly orders and all that ARMY stuff sure means a lot of hard work...but it doesn't excatly require a lot in the ways of brain power. Speaking from personal experiance here.

On the bonus side you do get to blow shit up.

I would've thought that being a soldier takes alot of inner/mental strength and determination that you can't get from just being intellegent. But then again what do I know.

"stupidity" is not always an inherited gene. Idiot parents can have smart children. Smart parents can have idiot children. Furthermore just because someone is a Fundamentalist does not mean they are stupid, it means they are ignorant of the facts.

Idiot parents will raise their children in a fashion that makes them likely to be stupid/ignorant/uneducated/whatever , then again the children can find out logic for them selves. I never said anything about inherited genes, though that can contribute. Also I'm lumping in ignorance under stupidity, since that's how I often hear it used. Language develops and changes.

Evolution only optimizes for survival of the species, not it's intelligence, unless the intelligence contributes to the survival- we are beyond that stage though. And genocide of stupid people is simply unacceptable. It's not solely in the genes anyways, it's upbringing too.

Actually, that's incorrect. Stupidity is a genetic trait, caused by the inherent capabilities and behaviour of the brain. Retards, for example, generally have retarded children. Do not confuse actual stupidity with ignorance or brainwashing.

True, but a fundamentalist is much more likely to be stupid, for the simple reason that stupid people are more easily swayed to their belief system and more easily kept there. A smart person who was raised fundie, when confronted with the arguments of scientists, will be more likely to question things than a stupid person who was raised fundie.

How about tactical analysis, stategy, troop managment, maintence of all sorts of equipment, problem solving under duress, and try to figure out indirect fire (Trig was never my strong suit). The days of stupid people being in the Army for cannon fodder is long gone. Today's troops are trained to think and trained to adapt to all sorts of situations.

Speaking from personal experiance here.

Every Marine is suppost to know the job of two levels above him/her. Also if you look at the basic set up of a unit, Lcpl's and Army equivilants (E3) are in charge of a fireteam, Cpl's deal with squads and Sgts deal with platoons. Everyone deals with analysis, managment, ect.... just the higher you get on the totum pole, the more people and equipment you get to be responsible for.

You know those soldiers that go in gung-ho, ready to kill anything that moves? I've seen some of my fellow pilots freeze up at critical moments because they were reluctant to kill another human being, even in the middle of battle. It's not a training thing, it's totally psychological. No matter how well trained someone is, no matter how one disiplined is, they will almost always have qulams about killing in combat, because they were brought up being told constantly not to kill anyone unless in self defense. Although some people overcome that certain psychological barrier in private well before battle.
