A new computer game has come in for fierce criticism in China because it portrays the country as a terrorist base.
Players can destroy Tiananmen Square in a scene in the game, called Generals, from EA Games.
Generals is the third installment in the popular Command and Conquer series.
In the game, set in the year 2020, terrorists set up base in China where they purchase tanks, planes and missiles to form the Global People's Liberation Army.
The game portrays how the GPLA fires missiles at Beijing. Players can also reduce Tiananmen Square to rubble by bombing it, and they can also target Europe or the US.
One player told the Sing Tao Daily: 'It is an insult to China for players to be able to bomb Tiananmen Square at the press of a button.
"The image of Tiananmen Square cannot be sullied. We will not allow foreigners to treat this as a joke!"
It doesn't get much dumber than this. As usual, the mainstream gets it all wrong- in the game, the US and China are allies AGAINST terrorism. So WHAT if you can play as the terrorists. Jeez, grow up.
And I'm sorry, but you never see the Russians complaining about the portrayal of them in Red Alert/Red Alert 2, or Starlancer, etc.

I wonder if they'll be recalled and all those lucky enough(like Hitman 2....oi)will be able to retain the original glory while the changed version will be some odd bastardization?

I'm suddenly reminded of CPL (Counterstrike, btw) last year, when the terms "bomb", "defuse", "Counter-terrorist" and "Terrorist" were changed to "communication device", "disable", "defending team" and "attacking team", respectively.
Fortunately, so many people got pissed off that it was changed back to normal within days.

What the hell are they talking about? The Chinese KICK ARSE in C&C.
Besides, the phrases "Burn them in flame!", "Foreign Devils!" and *BOOOOOM* are well known elements of the rich and diverse Chinese culture!
