It doesn't look that bad to me. But then, I liked several of the original submission and they where all rejected.

Because it would cost an huge amount while bringing in less of a return then several smaller buildings.

Not totally horrific. But not stellar either.

The larger one will be by far the tallest building in the world. As it should be.

I'm not wild about them, but they could definately be worse.

Man, I could do better designs than that...

By over 300 feet. However Australia is planning a 3,300 foot tower as a sort of solar/wind power hybrid. Depending on how its built, it might be classified as a building. more likely it will just be a "structure" and only be the king of them. Currently would worlds tallest structure is some Polish TV tower IIRC.

That one was my favorite out of the finalists. Of course, IMO, all the finalists were pretty sucky.

So many people claim when it comes to architecture. They then proceed to design buildings, which would collapse before they where finished, would be snapped in half by the wind or require five times the allotted budget while still sucking shit in everyones eyes but there own.

Yeah...that's why I said design and not build.

I do try to be practical, however.

i found this one most amusing:

Image

richard meier´s proposal would have been so fucking cool: it´s not the same old bullshit that has been built for decades now but something completely new.

Image

foster´s would have sucked

thé one that won, well, nothing special, worse than foster´s attempt.

I like the one that one. The spire is neet but I think that a lot of the details to the rest of the complex help sell it.

The runner-up was a trip though. With those giant steel frame towers that were mostly open to the elements. A park with trees near the top. I'd liked to have seen how that would have held up to the elements. I did like the staircases that went all the way from the ground to the top. I think the Port Authority will do better with what one because it's more likely to generate revenue than the 2nd one.

Am I the only one who thinks it should become a memorial park or something like that instead of another glob of concrete...

You`re not the only one but i guess they prefer building another skyscraper on that spot.

That's pretty much what the runner-up was with the two frame towers.

There's a pretty large open are in the winner that has an glassed in area that is supposed to be in the sun ever single day. I think the reason this one won is because it did the best job combining the memorial idea with something practical (office space $) and the coolness of that one spier.

how much is one squaremeter in manhatten? how big is the site of the wtc? no a memorial park, forget it.

It's because the value of property in that area (particularly for a space as large as the WTC lot) is extremely high. Making it purely a memorial park would be a waste of property. It's better to make part of it useful.
