Even though we all know that the religion is nothing, if anyone in the world deserves to be acknowledged as a saint, Mr. Rogers is the one.
Please sign, even though this isn't the way it's supposed to work.

As much as I like Fred Rogers, anyone signing that is a moron.
Besides, online petitions don't work.

I admire Mr. Rogers as much as the next person, but if we gave out Sainthood to everybody who had done good as he did, we'd have a lot of saints.
I doubt if this would work.

Of course it won't fucking work.
You can't canonise someone with an online petition.

To become a Saint you need to have performed two miracles which have stood up to investigation IIRC. The whole process can take decades. In any case, Rogers hasn't been linked to any miracles of the kind the Church is intrested in.
This petition is just a waste of time

Aside miracles and such, I don't think Mr. Rogers has done anything saint-worthy. What has he done to make himself so great? He taught kids to be good neighbors. That's nice and all, but it's hardly something worth sainthood.

FFS, Spanky et al, this is harmless. Relax.

Agreed

He's not Catholic. This could prove a troubling obstacle.

True. I very much doubt the Catholic Church would canonize a Presbyterian minister. Might cause a few crises of faith.

In some cases it takes centuries....

Why the Hell would we want to do that? So he can be in the company of sexist assholes like Paul?

Also a lunatic.
Look at Jeanne D'Arc. First proclaimed a heretic by the church, then 800 years later proclaimed a saint.

Specifically, anti-semitic crap that led to the Holocaust. EDIT: Oops! That was Martin Luther. Thomas Aquinas just began the perpetuation of pseudo-logical thinking.
I'd love to see what would happen if the Church didn't investigate miracles internally and instead hired a team of scientists to objectively evaluate the claims of the potential saint. The ranks of saints would thin pretty damn quickly ...

I don't think Fred Rogers would be accepted by the Catholic Church considering how he has in fact never molested any children.

And he has the temerity not to be Catholic. If memory serves, he's a Lutheran minister(?).

The Dark says he's Presbyterian.

It's a sweet thought, but I think there are better, more practical ways to honour how wonderful a man he was.

Yes, thank you for making a demonising generalisation of Catholics.

Sainthood doesn't work that way. I don't think that Mr. Rogers performed any miracles while he was on Earth, however much we may have cared for him.

What do saints do, anyhow? I keep hearing about them, and my fair city is named after the patron saint of television, but I have no idea what they're supposed to do. Do people pray to them or something? Are they good luck charms? Are there any evil saints?

Saints are prayed to, yeah. It's like the Greek pantheon of gods. The only religion that really recognizes sainthood is Catholicism.

They act like divine representation. You pray to the saint so he or she will go talk to God for you and try to get you what you want. Don't even bother asking if it makes sense. It doesn't.

I never understood the concept of saints. I mean, why wouldn't God listen to you anyway? He's God, for God's sake- it's not like he has more important things to do.
