What do ya think. By itself it does not worry me, but given the climate I can't help but feel tension is slowly being raised one notch at a time.

It's like they're playing a game of chicken, and seeing who blinks first. Getting more and more intense.

IIRC, the US has been working on ASAT lasers for some time, we might just do a combat test of it then

The plane was in international airspace, but I ask you - what would the USAF do if an NK spy plane was cruising a couple of miles of California?

We wouldn't harrass it like that. The USSR sent long-range recon planes (not spy planes, there is a difference) to snoop around. We might shadow it, but not do something like turn on the fire-control radar.

Using fire control radar at a time like this is dangerous. It could lead to the unintentional downing of one side's aircraft.

I dont have a problem with them tailing our planes in international waters, but coming within 50ft is playing dangerous games.

No more dangerous than the games the Sov's and we used to play. Siding up close enough to trade rude gestures, and hand made signs with questions and insults with the crew, buzzing another aircraft, playing chicken with a Bear bomber.....good times.

Although, over a hundred recon aircraft from both sides 'had mechanical failure' (of the 20 and 30mm variety) and were lost over and near our respective countries.......

North Korea is a little more unstable than the Soviets. I never worried about the Soviets selling a nuke on the open market.

Yes, shootdowns of recon aircraft happened without wars breaking out. But would that happen this time? Who knows.
