Has anyone here ever eaten monkey or any type of ape? If so, what does it taste like? If not, would you or is it a little too close to home? Personally I haven't but I would if it was put in front of me.

If it can communicate with me, I don't want to eat it.

This is just one more reason that the events of "Planet of the Apes" (The original stupid!) are going to take place. These guys are gonna want revenge sooner or later.

Something about eating monkey just doesn’t sit right with me. Monkeys aren’t for eating; they're for dressin' up, and doing tricks.

A friend of mine thinks he might have been fed monkey while visiting the Phillipines. If it was monkey, he said it was terrible. Really terrible.

I don't get it. Is there something so wrong with normal food that people are driven to eat monkey?

It's a good way to get Ebola or Kuru so the next time I go to my local Spar I will avoid the chilled monkey brains and primate select cuts section.

Monkey brains are also a good way to risk getting a prion infection.

My dad said it's not bad, but then again.. that man has eaten just about everything and anything. You do know monkey brains are served while the monkey is still alive and you eat them straight from the skull?

I don't think that I'd eat the brains out of a living anything but cooked meat is a different story. If even the meat cooked can give you those diseases I'd think twice about that too but would the disease survive the cooking? I don't think I'd think twice about eating monkey meat. People do it all the time in parts of the world. Apes, I have to admit are a little close for comfort. They're intelligent and maybe too closely related. If push came to shove though, they're related but not human. I'd eat one if I had to.

As a rabid monkey, I don't want to be around when you run out of monkeys to eat!

Eating a primate is a great way to catch a horrible disease, considering the same things that make them sick make us sick. Shit, HIV might have made the jump between apes and humans when someone ate an infected chimp. And eating brains is borderline suicidal. The only way to destroy the infectious agents in a prion disease is to burn the infected tissue to charcoal and ash.

And even then, it's not completely safe. I think I recall something about prions being able to resist temperatures of thousands of degrees...

Spicy cooked guinea pigs and other variants of this rodent and also some unknown (to y'all) relatives of pig and boar taste pretty good.

*Nicely points out that Kuru is a prion infection but was mainly caught from cannibalistic practices*

Suprisingly, one of the few things that doesn't taste like chicken. Tastes like beef actually.
