I just found out that Kent Hovind is coming to my school to tangle with an anthropology professor. While I do want to go and watch the debate, I don't want to deliberately surround myself with so many rabid creationists as I'm sure will be there.

What to do, what to do...

All I know is that Kent Hovind is a phony, and he isn't worth half the attention people pay to him.

The scary thing is that some people dare to take him seriously.

He's debating an actual scientist instead of a layman who thinks he's better educated than he actually is? That's not usually his style.

Well, unless your anthopology professor is complately retarded I'd go there just to see Hovind get his ass handed to him.

BTW this is very bizzare... Hovind is a cook and his arquments are so stupid that a five year old should be able to rip them apart.
Why on Earth is going up against an actual scientist? Machocism, a not so un-expected fit of insanity or is there something more to this then meets the eye... Maybe it is a conspiracy.

Go! You're bound to have fun.

I would go. Laugh at loud whenver Hovind says something, and make sure the anthro professor isn't an idiot. The fact that Hovind is going to actually debate him makes it seem fishy.

Actually, it's at Rutgers. The e-mail said April 1st. So if you're in Jersey around then, feel free to come on down and check things out.

And having thought about it more, and hearing your opinions, I think I will go. Now I am faced with another question. Do I heckle, or keep my yap shut?

You might want to find out if he is "stacking" the audience. That is his M.O., afterall. When he puts rabid creationists in the audience, he can be sure that the real scientist that he is debating will be waaaayyy over their heads. This is how he wins.

Oh, and when the Q & A period begins, perhaps you could ask him if assualt charges have been dropped.

Assault charges? :?:

Hovind is up an assault charges for barging into one of his tennant's apartments, and attacking her boyfriend. They were...GASP... living together.

This is public information. Try to look up criminal information in Florida under his name. He has more than a few, most notably for not paying taxes. He is a Grade A nut. His son keeps getting into legal trouble too.

If I were you I'd contact this anthropology professor to inform him of Hovind's style. Hovind will play to the audience's gargantuan ignorance of all things scientific and make outrageous claims, and make it look like he won.

Sound like anyone from the SWvsST debate??

Hovind will attempt to engage in a theatrical debate, with a LOT of sloganeering, carefully crafted one-liners, folksy but monstrously inaccurate analogies, etc. People who are stupid are vulnerable to this style of circus-act, and unfortunately, most people are stupid.

There's a reason Hovind has consistently refused to engage in WRITTEN debate; theatrics don't work as well in written debate.

Go. Be sure you take a cardboard sign that says, "Fuck Hovind", or something. Show it whenever the scientist says something. Maybe you'll get on TV.

Don't heckle, it'll just give him ammunition.

But when the Q&A comes around lay into the fucker. And remember, take the piss with your questions.

Questions like: "Dr. Hovind, where did you receive your doctorate, and precisely what kind of doctorate is it?" are always fun. Also, try "Do you feel that the Flintstones was historically accurate?"

LOL!!!!

Let's try to post a link of Hovind's criminal record. I will start looking for it. I have seen it online before.

OK, if you guys have any particular questions, post them here and I'll bring a list with me to the debate.

The Flinstones one is going at the top of the list. So will any questions regarding his criminal record. :D

Hey, which Rutgers campus? If it's Rutgers Camden, I could make it.

With that date, are you sure it's legit?
