Well, time to swallow my pride and get this over with since he seems to be around at the moment...

Why do you have both Darth Wong and AdmiralKanos names? I know you're the same person, I'm just wondering why.

I've heard speculation that you're schizo (name withheld to protect a certain Mod... ), or a somewhat more reasonable one that one is for "fun" and the other is for "official" board stuff, but I've seen you use them interchnagably (DW and AK have done ban messages, fe).

So, just wondering why, and sorry for the stupidity/obviousness/newbieness of the question.

Well, there's hope. Hopefully, this won't get buried under other replies, like yours did (if it's the Wong = Yoda thread I'm thinking of).

Darth Wong is his posting persona. It has full mod powers, and a cool Yoda avatar.

AdmiralKanos is the board administrator account. It can do, well, everything and a bag of potato products. As one might expect, this is generally just taken out when such muscle is needed.

Apparently too many people were confusing admin decisions with typical posts, so Wong made two accounts. One to use when he just surfs this board and the other to lay down major admin decisions with.

Yeah, but I've seen him use both before, almost interchangeably, just replying in the same topic.

Plus, he used both at ASVS, though I'm not 100% sure if that was before or after the BBS went up.

Who cares? Everyone (except for DarkStar) know that they're the same person. It's probably just something that he doesn't even think about, anymore.

Wong has had two accounts since before the board existed. Take a look at the member list, Kanos is first followed by Darth Wong.

I always thought his Admiral Kanos alias was for when he was posting from work.

I imagine it's to force himself to put thought into an admin decision before doing it. I think that AdmiralKanos' admin power is greater than Darth Wong's, so Mike posts regular stuff as Darth Wong. Basically, as Darth Wong, he can't impulsively close thread or something; he has to re-login and force himself to consider it more before taking action.

That's my theory, anyway.

Well, if I hadn't seen it used interchangeably, I'd say that's a fairly plausible one.

Much more so than the "Wong is a schizo" that Dalt...er, a nameless mod proposed.

But, wouldn't it be more convienent to have both the mod and admin powers in one account? That's something I've been wondering.

If you really wanted to know, if both of Mike's accounts were combined, that account would have more posts than anyone else here (Although he might be a few posts behind IG-88E).

Might also be security and location issues as well. One might be for home and othe might be work during lunch. Just a thought.

Nope. Admiral Kanos is the only Admin. Darth Wong just has supermod powers.

DW has never said he changes his name on location, its nothing more than speculation. Also, Wong isn't "hiding" he states clearly in the Announcements that Kanos and DW are the same person.

Quite simply Kanos is Admin., while DW is his regular posting name. I don't think anybody really knows the reasons for having them both. Not that it really matters anyways, I mean, who cares right?

I would think that one would need to set up an admin account to set up the board before regular users can join.
