How many of you here still play games dating back to the Commodore 64 era? Or the Apple IIc era, for those so inclined? What are your favorite games from that era of computer gaming? Do you still have them around, or do you use the current emulators? Which emulators do you prefer? Inquiring minds wanna know.....

I remember playing Zaxxon and Centipede on the Apple ][e.
And who else here loved the Eryx [insert name here] games series:
California games,
World games,
Summer games,
Winter games...
Button bashing goodness for all.

You can't forget the classics that are "Mr. Robot" or "Dig Dug".
Seriously, does anybody under 18 know what the hell I'm talking about?

Dig Dug!
HELL FUCKIN' YA!
Though I have only recently turned 18, so I guess I don't count with the "under 18" crowd anymore. Oh well, I can buy lotto tickets/porno/smokes/go to strip clubs and they can't. So, I ain't too worried.
EDIT: And vote too!

Apple IIE (Beige model, not the later Platinum or extended-keyboard Platinum models), which predates the two Apple IIc revisions.

I remember playing Apple ][ games in elementary school. Aside from that, I've played imitations and descendents of some of the older games. The oldest game I still play semi-regularly is Angband, whose roots extend back to the early '80s. I remember way back in my childhood playing a digdug clone. I also remember being annoyed when many of my old games suddenly stopped working in the early 90s, when we got a new computer. Even if I could fit the disks in the drive the processor was too fast to run them without special measures. I still can't find a good artillery game. You remember those games where you shot at each other, adjusting angle and power until somebody got a hit?

Without doubt. And the old school one too, not the one with pretty graphics. I remember one with almost all black screen and the wagon as outlines and the rest pretty much outlines. Not sure, if it's "the" old school Oregon Trail, but seems pretty close to me.

Very rarely, I'll play a game on my
Timex Sinclair 2068.

Dude! I played Oregon Trail on the ][e also! Know exactly what you're talking about.
Right now though the oldest games I play are either on an NES emulator or the original Phantasy Star (well, it's actually the GBA port, but still).

I used to name my trailmaster "Rommel" and set the pace to "grueling." I would make it to oregon before the summer was out. Sure I would lose one or two here and there, but the mission would ultimately be accomplished.....

Really? I did the same thing but I never lost anybody. Well, except for the Rommel part.

Heh, I remember Oregon Trial was on all the computers in SECOND grade. Hehehe. Fun game too. I would go hunting as often as possible, and shoot all those buffalo and deer all to hell. And I was good at it too, everyone else couldn't aim for shit, but I was gunning down bears and stuff left and right.
I was a natural.

I remember thinking, just after I shot three buffalo, why I couldn't come back for more meat.

Oregon Trail:
Loved floating across rivers. Plus, when I was in a morbid mood, setting it to grueling and food to spare, and watching people die left and right...
Duck Hunt:
But of course! My cousin still has a working NES, gun, and Duck Hunt/Mario combo! Lots of fun. I love shooting them ducks "ghetto style". More fun than a barrel full of, well, ducks!

I still drag out the old Atari 2600 every now and then. Whenever I think that a game's graphics look crappy, I just look at Pong for 5 minutes...

That's why I emulate...my 2600 is far too dead for anything useful

Wizard of Wor, on the C64. I still play that every now and again.
And yeah, Moon Patrol rocked!
I also have an
Adventure! emu that I fire up every so often for fun. Adventure was a text based fantasy game from the '70's. You traveled through a cave, looking for treasure, fighting trolls. Very simple two word commands, GO WEST, GET SILVER, THROW AXE, and so on. My dad thinks he still has a tape of it, somewhere. Anyone out there know FORTRAN?
