A Waterford mother will spend at least nine years in prison for having sex with the 14-year-old son she gave up for adoption when he was a few days old.

Aimee L. Sword, 36, apologized for her actions at her sentencing Monday in Oakland County Circuit Court, said her attorney Mitchell Ribitwer.

Judge Daniel O'Brien sentenced Sword to nine to 30 years in prison.

Sword received yearly updates and pictures from the boy's adoptive family in Grand Rapids, Ribitwer said. But when she didn't get a picture when the boy turned 14, she contacted him online through a social networking site. Ribitwer said the boy knew Sword was his mother.

"When she saw this boy, something just touched off in her -- and it wasn't a mother-son relationship, it was a boyfriend girlfriend relationship," said Ribitwer, who added that Sword said she was sexually and physically abused as a child. "Aimee's searching for a reason why this happened. She can't understand it. She's going to get some counseling."

Originally charged with four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, the former Macy's makeup counter clerk pleaded guilty to having sex with the boy once. Investigators said she had sex with the teen in a Grand Rapids hotel and also at homes in Waterford in 2008.

After the teen got into trouble in Grand Rapids, his adoptive mother -- not knowing about the relationship -- agreed to allow him to stay with Sword in Waterford. Married at the time, Sword shared her home with her husband and five other children, toddlers to late teens.

But after he returned to Grand Rapids, he talked about the incidents to a counselor, who reported them to police.

"It's the first time I've really seen something like that between a mother-son," Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper said Monday after the sentencing.

I've heard of this a couple times before, with siblings seperated at birth and at least one father-daughter couple. Those were consenting adults, though, although the usual social stigmas applied. People grow up without each other, they meet as strangers, and have a connection which is mistaken for... other things. When the incest couple is made up of consenting adults there's only so much that can be done, legally, but in the case of a minor, well, there's a whole lot of legal whup-ass that can be opened.

The opposite effect is called "the Westermarck effect". Children who are unrelated but raised together relate to each other as if they were siblings, and they have an instinctive aversion to pairing up even though it would be okay. It was a problem among the communally-raised kids in Israeli kibbutzim.

Indeed. That's quite clearly a picture of a woman in the process of getting a tattoo. If it weren't for the fact that she's his biological mother, this would be just another open-and-shut case of statutory rape. As it is . . . it's still an open-and-shut case of statutory rape, except with some added squick to liven up what would otherwise be a depressing news cycle about how much the economy still sucks. I would suppose she never had custody of this child long enough to really develop the sort of maternal bond needed to firmly establish that banging that particular fifteen year old boy would be a pants-on-fire bad idea. As opposed to the 'merely' spectacularly bad idea it would've been had they not been immediate blood relatives.

Also he was 14 when the event first happened he's now like 16 I think.

I've actually known some girls that I wouldn't be surprised if they did this if they were in the given situation of giving up kid to adoption. I also wouldn't be surprise if she was a stripper, fucked for cash in the past and have had sex with under age guys before.

As for this chick... I guess I could see it. She never had the mother-son bond, so to her he is just some guy she loves and who loves her because they are family, but with nothing substantial to back it up. Their relationship is more akin to distant cousins than mother-son and if this chick is fucked up, which seems pretty apparent, then this isn't really all that shocking. I recall reading something ages ago about how people tended to rate opposite sex versions of themselves (computer generated iirc) as much more attractive then random unrelated people did (they weren't told that's what they were, to clarify).

The Westermark Effect, where people living in close proximity during the early years of their life become desensitized to sexual contact later in life, presumably exists specifically to prevent incestuous relationships. Which also reminds me of something else I saw on TV years ago, where somebody attributed the refusal of some sort of rare big-cat species to mate with the other of it's kind in the zoo to this sort of effect, and hypothesized that separating them during the early years of their life would make them more willing to breed.

Some hit growth spurts early. My 13 year old niece is 5 foot 11 inchs and can easy pass for 18. As to the topic well studies have shown that incest is more common than previously though, especially among sibilings close in age.

Incest fantasies involving strange people are no more unhealthy than female rape fantasies, which are even more common. One or two generations of incest doesn't present any significantly larger threat to the health of any resulting children than two unrelated parents, it requires numerous years on inbreeding to do so.

As for outlawing incest it's illegal in most of the US even with regards to consenting adults. My state for example classifies any 'engaging with father, mother, brother, sister, daughter, son, grandfather, grandmother, grandson, granddaughter, nephew, niece, uncle, or aunt' is considered a felony with incarceration for 5-15 years.

theres a few states where only lineal incest is illegal, basically parents-children, sibilings-sibilins. Montana for example it's not part of the law for niece-uncle for example. Also
Rhode Island repealed its criminal incest statute in 1989, Ohio only targets parental figures, and New Jersey does not apply any penalties when both parties are 18 years of age or older. Massachusetts issues a penalty of up to 20 years' imprisonment for those engaging in sexual activities with relatives closer than first cousins and Hawaii up to 5 years in jail for "sexual penetration" with certain blood relatives and in-laws.

So it's while incest is illegal, the deffinition of incest changes from stat to state.

In Russia, consensual sex between adults, including incest, is not a crime.
Incest is LEGAL in Belgium; the age of consent is 16
Incest is LEGAL in Brazil; the age of consent is 14
Incest with a descendant or a full sibling is prohibited by law in Sweden[17]. Half-siblings can marry.

However in all states parents/kids is illegal only a few countries allows it.

My thoughts exactly, and also why i thought he probably WAS a teenager because only a teenager would get up in the morning and thing "Damn this beard looks good, i should button up my collar and put on my nice bandanna and gloves for a photo.

The mother ah...well she's gonna need counseling, The event was triggered when she didn't get a picture of her son, so i think she took all of her maternal instincts and crammed them down through her dysfunctional sexual experiences and PTSD and it somehow came out in the shape of "Alright, I'll fuck my son...."
