Vegetarians right or not?

Post by Faram »

To clarify my view. I like meat I eat meat and fish so I am not a vegetarian.

I just ran into one of those freaks outside a fast food restaurant.

She had the galle to scream in my face and take my hamburger and toss it in the street.

Needless to say I got quite upset.

Her argumentation went something like the creationist’s I have seen on this website.

1. Meat and fish is bad
2. All people can live on vegetables and spare the lives of the poor cattle.
3. Animals should have the same rights as humans.

Amusing she didn’t say how they should pay taxes, vote and stuff like that.

Now to my question, could all humans live on vegetables only?
How mutch trouble would that be, need to eat many kilos of vegetables just to make up for the proteins in one steak, fish vatever.

I need counter arguments for the next time

And no I am not considering going vegetarian I love hamburgers and sushi.

If you see her again, dump some ants on her. When she tries to swat them off, just remind her that harming animals is wrong. Ants have rights too you know.

No I am 30+ and she might be like 16 so I can't do anything she might scream rape, abuse, assault or something like that and I might get into trouble.

I just need rational ammo, to shoot down their stupid arguments if this thing ever happens again.

If anyone messed with my food I would grab them and drag them back into the store, I wouldn't give a dman about their age, besides I'm 16 so I can't really be charged unless they are 14 or under, or something like that. So you can imagine that she better have some spare change. Stupid bastards.

Mmmmm Meat...

If the street burger is still in its wrapper, pick it up and eat it front of her making yummy noises.

Then calmly ask her, "So you only eat things that can't fight back?"

Take note of the clothing (particularly the shoes) that she is wearing. This is a classic vegitarian hypocrate down fall.

Then explain that you were given insizers by nature for a reason and that you'd rather eat meat like the rest of humanity since the dawn of the species than be on bottle after bottle of vitimen suppliments for the rest of you're life.

Yes but you need to take supplements because vegetables along don't give all the needed vitamins and shit. Also I ain't seen a healthy looking vegetarian yet.

Well, to shoot down their herbivorous bullcrap arguments, start by discussing the human digestive tract (evolved to digest primarily meat - we cannot process cellulose, which would be a must-have if we were intended to be vegetarians). Then there's the incisor argument. Finally, if she still won't stop whining and moaning, go tell her that the only reasons cows and other livestock exist is to provide us with food, and that if we were to only eat vegetables, we'd have to eliminate their pastures and replace them with farms. Which would incidentally mean killing off all manner of livestock around the world.

My view would be; if you're a vegetarian/gay/lesbian/communist/etc. , fine. I'm not. Force your beliefs on me and I'll make you eat your hat.

A person can eat whatever the hell they want, I really couldn't care less. But as soon as they try to force their ways on me they can go to hell. Doing so will result in the "I will kill you" look and lots of creative cuss words.

Do you know something? I was planning on writing a scene a lot like this for some black comedy screenplay I was consiering. However I decided to ommit (or at least modify) the scene because 1: it seemed too far fetched, and 2: it was too stereotypical, and most vegetarians are sensible and friendly people. Now that you've told your story, that scene is going right back in (its not TOO similar to your experience, so don't worry). Honestly, I'll never feel guilty about biting into a Quarter Pounder again.

On a more serious note, vegetables contain different proteins than meat. Your body breaks them down and reassembles them into what it needs. A vegetarian will point out that it takes a lot of work for your body to do this, which is why you feel sluggish after eating a lot of meat. However, meat does give you a fairly complete mixture of amino acids, proteins, etc. Vegetables, on the other hand, give you an incomplete mixture, and you must carefully select a varied diet of vegetables in order to duplicate the protein intake you would get from meat.

That's why most vegans look like hell. They're often depriving themselves of certain nutrients because their vegan diet is not designed well enough, or they don't have enough discipline to do all the work necessary to duplicate the protein intake that a meat-inclusive diet would give them.

As for the moral issue, she's half right. Meat is less ecologically friendly than fruits, grains, and vegetables because the latter crops require far less agricultural land per pound of finished food than grazing herds of cattle do. This is a fact, and even though I'm a meat eater, I'm not about to go shoving my head in the sand to avoid it. However, it is only a matter of degrees; all agricultural and human industrial activity impinges upon animals, to the extent that it pollutes their environment, consumes their living space, disrupts their food chain, etc. Accept it. There is not one single major human activity which does not negatively impact some kind of animal somewhere, and those who point the finger are trying to pretend that they've found some magic lifestyle which does not hurt animals at all, which is complete bullshit.
  • Does she use electricity? The majority of North American power plants burn fossil fuels and pollute the environment.
  • Does she drive a car, ride in a car, or take the bus? Ditto.
  • Does she read books? You would not believe the shit that pulp and paper mills dump into the environment (and I used to work for Kimberly-Clark; I'm not just pulling this out of my ass).
  • Does she wear leather made from the skin of dead animals?
  • Does she live in a house? Anything but high-rise apartment buildings is an inefficient use of land area, and contributes to urban sprawl, which in turn drives animals out of their native habitats.
  • Does she eat fruits and vegetables from the grocery store? Where does she think it came from? Does she realize what farmers do to animals which trespass on their property? Does she realize that the first step in establishing farmland is to annihilate all trees and other indigenous life forms, prior to full replacement with manufactured crops?
  • Does she have wooden furniture at home? Does she plan to buy a house someday? Where does she think all the wood in furniture and house frames comes from? Does she realize that many animals can't live in deforested land?
Next time you see her, tell her that what she needs is to get fucked up the ass. Maybe it will clear her mind.

To be fair I dont think you had a run in with your average vegetarian. I think you probably met one of the PETA types or militant VEGAN. Most vegetarians I know dont push their ideas on anyone. But the PETA types will outright accuse you of being as bad as Hilter cause you drink milk.

You should have screwed with her. " My family and I have been trying to reduce our meat intake. We want to reduce our footprint on mother earth. This was the one night a week we eat meat. But your horrible behavior is making me rethink my association with your movement. "

One thing some of these folks fail to understand is just because you remove land from meat production does not mean its going to be used for some pro environmental purpose. Grazing areas near urban areas are most likely to be developed instead of being converted into farmland. After all, a rancher is a rancher and not a farmer. ;-)
