Dreadnought vs Dreadnaught

Is this some Americanised spelling BS I'm unaware of? When pertaining to RL ships, it is invariably spelled "DREADNOUGHT", but in sci-fi, it's rendered "DREADNAUGHT"
Is the A-U spelling pronounced "dred-naft"?
Am I the only one who notices this?

The only correct spelling is Dreadnought. However, given how much naval terminology is abused in sci fi and how devoiced there classification systems tend to be, it doesnt really matter. Its rare that "Dreadnaughts" are actually at the top of the ladder.

Both are pronouced "dred-naht", AFAIK. It all depends to the sci-fi universe as to spelling. WH40K uses dreadnought, Star Wars uses dreadnaught IIRC.
