So ... yeah. All that quitting movies to take up rap was all an elaborate act for Casey Affleck's fake documentary about it. Go figure.

Celebrities making a publicity stunt to promote their shit? Oh my god I don't care.

Vote with your dollar and support the ones doing it right.
That's the only way you can make effective change.

I dare anyone to cough up a story of less importance to anybody save the people covered in the story itself.
Really, didn't anything more important happen today? Like maybe someone at a McDonald's getting their coffee at just the right temperature, or a retiree enjoying a satisfactory bowel movement?

Saw the story this morning and thought to myself: "You mean he's still doing that shit!"
No doubt the media will make a big deal over this and fall all over themselves congratulating these knuckle heads. What it means to be a celebrity isn't the same as it used to be.

All it takes is cameras pointed your way for more than a few minutes.
Doesn't really sound like 'celebrity' has changed so much. It's always been empty bullshit promoted for the purpose of generating revenue, and distracting the low and gullible from the grind of their own lives which apparently even *they* don't find particularly interesting.

Who are these people again?
Clearly not anyone of significance since I've never heard of them.

Joaquin Phoenix had a decent career going, as an actor. I thought he was pretty good at it. Ditto Affleck, although I think his career is still more of a going concern.

Was that the movie with the Spartans and stuff?
I think I've heard about it but I don't recall seeing it...

Romans.
Close enough.

Not everyone, certainly. The idea that this was just a big piece of performance art by Phoenix was a pretty strong theory all the way from the Letterman performance to the premiere.
I myself hadn't really decided, but it's not like it was ever the centre of my thoughts.

Was it even anywhere near the cold dark remote outer periphery of your thoughts?

I remember reading about it once in the free paper a week or two ago. I didn't understand why anyone thought it was anything other than a stunt and moved on. I think the next page had jokes.

All I really recall of this apparently long-term prank is Phoenix's hilariously weird appearance on Letterman. Some said he was taking the piss, some said he was coked out of his mind and some said he just changed. I guess the first is the closest to the truth.

The most hilarious thing about all this is that it is now clear that Ben is the Affleck brother with the amazing talent.
Just go watch Gone Baby Gone and compare to this.

I'm not seeing mutual exclusivity among those options... There was at least one production at my college in which getting the cast coked out of their minds before each performance was viewed as a vital part of the process...

What? Gone Baby Gone is good. So was The Assassination of Jesse James. Casey put in some pretty good performances. Do you mean directing talent?

I expected something like that from the President of the Casey Affleck Fan Club.
