Gun Control Debate Moratorium
Mike suggested that I put a poll up to see what your opinions of a Gun Control debate moratorium. I have noticed they serve no purpose except to spread dissent among the members of the board. It is a moot point, as it is very unlikely it will ever get anywhere, and every time that there has been a gun control debate, it has ended up the same as it began, except with a heightened level of tension between members.

Re: Gun Control Debate Moratorium
Yes, it seems very similar to the problem brought up with pro/anti Israel debates (Where advocates of either side tend to see things as either/or, and tend to associate a lot of emotion with the issue.) We have the people who believe in some manner of gun-control versus the NRA pro-gun nuts who believe any attempt to confiscate firearms will result in the United States becoming a totalitarian regime (Like it isn't going that way already . . . and we're looking at you MK!) So yes, gun-control debates don't really accomplish anything here, especially as we tend to go over the same points over and over and over again, resulting in massive flamewars.NF_Utvol wrote:Mike suggested that I put a poll up to see what your opinions of a Gun Control debate moratorium. See, this is why we need the moratorium. Even threads discussing threads on gun control become flamefests.Beowulf wrote:Least you could have done was to avoid the ad hominem. Thank you. I am sick and fucking tired of certain people's blatant trolling and general-wrecking-of-civilized-discussion that gun-control debates invariably devolve into.Durran Korr wrote:Good move, Ein.Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:Thank you! I'll agree...no-one seems to get anywhere with these discussions.

Yes.
And now for ther final word:
And now for ther final word:
Marine Corp's General Reinwald was interviewed on the radio
the other day and you have to read his reply to the lady who
interviewed him concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel
about gun laws you gotta love this!!!! This is one of the best comeback
lines of all time.
It is a portion of National Public Radio (NPR) interview between
a female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald who was
about to host a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military installation.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what things are you
going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?
GENERAL REINWALD: We're going to teach them climbing,
canoeing, archery, and shooting.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't
it?
GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see why, they'll be properly
supervised on the rifle range.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly
dangerous activity to be teaching children?
GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see how. We will be teaching them
proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to become violent
killers.
GENERAL REINWALD: Well, you're equipped to be a prostitute,
but you're not one, are you?
The radio went silent and the interview ended. You gotta love
Marines.

So let me get this straight.... People here actually want to suspend the debate of a serious issue just because it is devisive and feelings will be hurt and there will be people who will take that opportunity to flame? That is some Grade A BULLSHIT!

No, it's the same reason that we have no Isreal-Palestine debates: They Run For Pages And Pages Without Going Anywhere.Col. Crackpot wrote:So let me get this straight....
