Gun Control Debate Moratorium

Mike suggested that I put a poll up to see what your opinions of a Gun Control debate moratorium. I have noticed they serve no purpose except to spread dissent among the members of the board. It is a moot point, as it is very unlikely it will ever get anywhere, and every time that there has been a gun control debate, it has ended up the same as it began, except with a heightened level of tension between members.

Yes, it seems very similar to the problem brought up with pro/anti Israel debates (Where advocates of either side tend to see things as either/or, and tend to associate a lot of emotion with the issue.) We have the people who believe in some manner of gun-control versus the NRA pro-gun nuts who believe any attempt to confiscate firearms will result in the United States becoming a totalitarian regime (Like it isn't going that way already . . . and we're looking at you MK!) So yes, gun-control debates don't really accomplish anything here, especially as we tend to go over the same points over and over and over again, resulting in massive flamewars.

You can take away my gun control debate when you pry it out of my cold, dead fingers.

Why bother? I don't see that many gun control threads.

See, this is why we need the moratorium. Even threads discussing threads on gun control become flamefests.

Thank you. I am sick and fucking tired of certain people's blatant trolling and general-wrecking-of-civilized-discussion that gun-control debates invariably devolve into.

I propose that gun control threads be allowed in the HoS only.

Yes, Einy should be given credit. I saw his post about PMing Mike about this and I decided to do a PM too, hopefully two voices would ring louder than one.

Hey that's a good idea! Any threads that turn into Gun control threads should be split and HoSed mercilessly!

Yes.
And now for ther final word:
Marine Corp's General Reinwald was interviewed on the radio
the other day and you have to read his reply to the lady who
interviewed him concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel
about gun laws you gotta love this!!!! This is one of the best comeback
lines of all time.
It is a portion of National Public Radio (NPR) interview between
a female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald who was
about to host a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military installation.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what things are you
going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?
GENERAL REINWALD: We're going to teach them climbing,
canoeing, archery, and shooting.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't
it?
GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see why, they'll be properly
supervised on the rifle range.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly
dangerous activity to be teaching children?
GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see how. We will be teaching them
proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to become violent
killers.
GENERAL REINWALD: Well, you're equipped to be a prostitute,
but you're not one, are you?
The radio went silent and the interview ended. You gotta love
Marines.

So let me get this straight.... People here actually want to suspend the debate of a serious issue just because it is devisive and feelings will be hurt and there will be people who will take that opportunity to flame? That is some Grade A BULLSHIT!

If everybody has said their points already, and we're just repeating what we've already said, then I vote "yes".

No, it's the same reason that we have no Isreal-Palestine debates: They Run For Pages And Pages Without Going Anywhere.
And some of us are fucking sick of this merry-go-round.
