Is Comic Relief A Lost Cause?

Looking at the hell on Earth that is Africa and also hearing how a few of my friends actually hate Comic Relief now, is it all for naught?
I don't think any amount of cash or aid can really fix that continent now given the problems it has faced.
But that's just me.
For those that don't know, Comic Relief is a charity that works with the BBC every two years to have a Friday night dedicated to celebs doing things for charity, comedy and showing the problems of Africa and how we could help. It is more commonly known as Red Nose Day as novelty red noses and badges are sold beforehand to raise cash.

Money can help people, there just too many people and too little money.
Even if you only help 100 people, it may seem small and insignificant, but I doubt the 100 people you helped feel that way.

Africa is on the edge of the Abyss. With Aids, ethnic and tribal wars, genocide, and lack of farmable land and the tech to make it that way. The whole sub continent with a couple of exceptions could implode or be in a constant state of hunger for the rest of our lifetimes.. I don't see enough money in the world to fix these problems..

Well... not all the Africans want to kill each other...
In fact most of them are simply extraordinarily unlucky, living where they do, and in those conditions. IMO, comic relief is still a good thing, I agree with Zoink, if you can make a difference to a few people, it's better than not making any difference...
*Gets off moral high horse*

The environment of Africa was severly crippled thousands of years ago when the Sahara Desert formed due to overgrazing, it is still growing.
Part of the problem is that there was a glut of over hunting, environmental, industrial, socio economic changes that happened within 50 years during Victoria's reign. Sadly Africa is still getting screwed over by De Beers.
The best bet for getting Africa on its feet fiscally and health-wise.
Give them power and septic tanks.
A good supply of personal use Solar panels would make it possible to do a great deal more with what they have.
Also another good supply of humanitarian aid and assistance.
AIDs will be gone in 200 years.
Fiscal and governmental reform should be the two really important aspects of aiding Africa.
I know some people will say AIDs must be held back in Africa and kept from destroying the population. But I must counter that in 200 years the AIDs epidemic will be all but gone because of the ability of human beings and all life to evolve, perhaps some genesplicing could be used to up those chances. There is a resistant gene in 10% of central europeans that came from their extended exposure to Bubonic Plague.

As I have stated before, HIV is a whole new breed of terror compared to plague. It is more analogous to Influenza, and we haven't got rid of that, you can't cure against viri anyway.
We'll need some greatly advanced tech in order to combat AIDS.

I know noone will like this but if we isolate the AIDS patient who caught by being irresponsible, example sharing seringes or unprotected sex we might be able to erradicate the disease.
