More Texas Shenanigans: The Dixie Chicks

Post by Damaramu »

At a recent concert in London one of the Dixie Chicks, Natalie Maines, reportedly said: "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

A couple of country stations here in Houston are boycotting The Dixie Chicks by not playing their songs.

More on this can be found HERE.

I think the more important question to consider here is: "Who gives a shit?"

I think it's unwarranted. People are allowed their opinion. Of course celebrities' opinions get more air time so they should have known that. But still, people are allowed their opinion.

Jesus Christ, celebrities need to learn that they are entertainers, not politicians, and that, when it comes to their views on world politics, nobody gives a shit. Nobody important, anyway.

Although, I wouldn't mind so much if a celebrity stood up and said "Let's go to Iraq and give'em hell!" At least then they wouldn't be going with the mindless majority.

As long as people do give a shit, then their voices are obviously more important than that of better informed and insightful people.

I despise country music but Clint Black as a new song "I Raq and I roll" which actually entertained me somewhat.

entertainers with inflated egos such as the Dicksy Chixreally need to remember that they're not popular for political opinions and that most people don't give a shit. Same with Sean Penn, Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg and others. Fuck them, their seven digit paychecks, and single digit IQs

Both sides need to grow up. Nobody gives a shit about the opinions of some celebrity, and the radio stations should know if every artist that openly opposed a war on Iraq was boycotted, then there would only be about two musicians left.

Which brings me to my next thought: Why do these musicians think they're proving a point by openly opposing war? And what progress do they make by uniting, in that group, Artists United to Win Without War (Or it that "Artists United to Whine About War"?).

Whoa there, they simply stated their opinion during a concert, it's not like they were speaking at a political rally, speaking before congress, or meeting with a foreign head of state.

I hate the Dixie Chicks. This just adds a notch into a cut up wall of why I should kill them.

Not Celine, the Dixie Chick, Natalie Maines. Celine just creeps me out for some reason.

Put quite simply, they (Dixe Chicks) have a right to there opinion, but people (radio stations and consumers) have a right to buy and/or listen to what they want. These celebraties have to learn that shitting on 1/2 of there consumers (thats right, roughly 1/2 of Americans are conservitive and/or Republicans) is not good for their businesses. Its that simple.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Bleached-blonde or real blonde? Cause it might make a difference.

And yeah, they all bug me for numerous reasons, especially Dion, who is simply weird and annoying enough to be as creepy as one can get without looking like Joan Rivers.

Let me illustrate my position:

1. Country Music.

2. Dixie Chicks.

3. Texas.

4. Country Music.

5. President Bush.

All this equals a whole bunch of not caring.

But when you give your opinion in front of a crowd of people like that, then you make that sort of thing a political statement to the masses even though everyone there paid their money to hear music.
