Touched by an Angel

Unfortunately, my mother left the TV on when I got home from work tonight. Low and behold there was a mention of video games and some kid in court. So I decided to tune in and watch 'Molested by an Angel.' It seemed like they were going to turn it around and make it that people should be responsible playing video games, but HELL NO. Right at the end, this kid changes his testimony. Retells his story about him and his friend. The friend was driving a car, the kid was a passenger. They saw a woman on the street, and called her street scum, (which the video game refers to a prostitute.) They get excited and yell, 'Die street scum die!' and then peel out and run the bitch over. It was shitty, but right there, in blatant visuals and dialogue. The VIDEO GAME WAS the reason for the crime. The driver was fed up with just playing, and wanted to really do the act. Fuck that show. Then Jabba the Judge gives a speech. Basically saying ' Just say NO. You don't let your kid eat fast food everyday, so why do you let them learn how to kill.' Fuck...that...show. I'm gonna write EGM with this post calling for a nation wide ban on this crap. Who is with me?!?

Most TV shows editorialize like crazy. It's more insidious when it's done in the format of entertainment, though. At least when Rush Limbaugh rants and raves like the bloated buffoon that he is, there's no pretense.

I watch "Touched by an Uncle" myself.
But seriously, I'd expect that message from Saturday night tripe. Remember "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman"? Or "Highway to Heaven"? Blecchh.

7th Heaven is just as bad, if not worse. It seems like every episode revolves around the evils of premarital sex and underage drinking. Of course, the family is Christian, so they work everything out because of their faith or whatever bullshit. None of the kids ever goes insane and kills a few people as a result of massive sexual repression. Now that would be a show.

New show. Touched by a MOAB, starring the stars and writers of this idiotic tripe.

I stepped away for ONE FUCKING MINUTE, and this is what happens. However, to turn this thread hijack around, a question to the 'rents of the board. Wong especially, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders in the events of child rearin'. They had some quack psychaitrist going on how it can affect a child who is exposed to it on a constant basis. Now, my nephew is only violent when I influence him to try and kick my ass. He plays most of the same games I do. He is 10 btw. I grew up on video games. I played everything I could. I also watched some 'questionable' movies when I was younger. Yet I don't recall ever starting a single fight and poeple I know in real life think I'm easy going. (secretly I wish most would just burn in hell. heh. ) Still, it's said to not offer an outlet, but dull the senses. The fuck.

I would watch that.
You could probably talk the kids in that family into absolutely anything, which combined with a lack of long-term character memory, helps them use the same plot devices over and over again. Awful show, which unfortunately my sister likes.

I play lotsa violent video games, watch violent movies, and do lotsa things fundies would have you belive dammage a young child. I've done this kinda stuff since i was a little kid. As far as i can tell it actually makes me less violent because nothing cools you off like shooting an orc with with an elven long bow (lotr ttw ) or engaging in aireal combat (JF4) or keeping terrorists from realeasing a deadley bio-toxin in washington dc through the use of extreme force (syphon filter). In short, the ass lickin, shit eating, hype feeding, dumb ass, under educated, trailor trash, le-brea tar pit crawling out of, over simplifing holly wood exec who makes that show should be shot.
End O' rant

Next on 7th Heaven ... Billy finds a gun, goes on a massive shooting spree and holds his school administration hostage after his parents take away every outlet for aggressive energy he has by banning him from videogames and installing a camera in his room to make sure he doesn't masturbate. Can the hostage negotiator talk him down with promises of legally preventing his parents from stopping him from masturbating, or will he just kill everyone and himself instead?
Is it excessive? Yes. It is the same argument that anti-masturbation and anti-videogame people use? Yes.

Interestingly enough, I just posted something in the SLAM forum that may be somewhat related to this:

This video games cause violence nonsense is PURE BULLSHIT. I've been playing game like Mortal Kombat and Doom for about half my life, and it has never caused me to become "fed up with just playing" and go out and kill someone. And even after all the guts and flying limbs from these games that I've seen, I was not desensitized when I saw Enlightenment's real picture of a man with his skull crushed and his brain missing (I even freaked out a little bit).

Sig pics are limited to one. While Mr. Burns is cool, and that shot of Yoda is just priceless, them's the breaks. See the Announcements forum.

I've had the same kinda life, I grew up watching all manner of movies, all games (Doom, MK, other odd violent things), and I've turned out ok. I now actually deplore violence.

Whenever I see "touched by an angel", I always feel like adding the word "inappropriately" before it.
