What do you guys/gals think of the future of our state? It is pretty bleak but that does not mean it is forever. I remember in 90/91 there were articles how California is no longer the Golden State and the future is in doubt. Then we had the economy of the mid-late 90's and things were booming.

However, some things that were bad in 90/91 only got worse. Crowding, high cost of living, degrading educational system, water issues, etc.

So, what think the future has in store for us. Are you gonna try and stick it out? For those of you in college, what do you plan to do? Saving for a home is a huge task for your generation.

I'm pre-college so I certainly won't be moving anywhere.

Our economy looks bad, Gray Davis is...well, bad. College tuition has gone up for the second time in a row (at least I got accepted to my college of choice. Yay!)

So far, living is alright.

Congrats on getting into college. The CSU/UC system is gonna get hit hard. The fees went up , the 2nd semester I was at SJSU. I remember back when community college fees were only $3.50/unit.

Things can change around, but it does look pretty sucky right now. Especially with some pretty bad choices concerning the government.

After graduating I plan to try to find something around here. It's still a pretty good place to live, despite the high cost of living and other problems. Hopefully it gets better.

Yeah, and I have to agree, education is really getting bad. They cut the education budget, raised fees, and still cut a bunch of stuff here. It sucks.

I'm actually more worried about gas prices right now. Fucking $2.499 a gallon. It's ridiculous. Even so, I'm graduating from high school next year, and hopefully they won't cut too much from CCSF.

High gas prices impact younger people like you more than older folks, makes getting by on a students budget even harder.

Im really wondering what will cause companies to start hiring again.

The gas prices don't affect me as much because I live in Berkeley and don't use my car that often. But it does suck for commuters.

I'm in CC right now and many class and professors are being cut. Also tuition doubled and many other fee rate raised. Just get Grey Davis out he can't do shit. The only thing that really keeps me in this state are the lax drugs laws, and some of the best weed around.

The Republican party had its chance to defeat Davis and they picked a guy like Simon who wont sit well with moderates.

Thing is I hated both Simon and Davis, they both were crap. I'd rather have Arnold as president. His relection slogan would be "I'll be back!"

Congratulations. Where are you going, then?

I agree that the economy is the worst I have ever seen it. With the massive re-regulations of the phone and utilities industries, I don't see how the Californian economy can possibly repair its serious legal problems. The spectacular ignorance of economics demonstrated by the state legislature, and government in general over the past few years is now beginning to affect how things are going for the average Californian.

When the editing staff and I were sitting in a late-night session a week and a half ago, we were watching one local station's coverage of Davis' SLUMPING approval rating, and the commentator said something to the effect of "The good news for Davis is that 51% of Californians oppose a recall."

Everyone kind of looked up at once and went, "How is that good news for Davis?" Then we all started laughing, and we fought over who would get to do the first editorial of how ridiculous that statement had been.

The thing is, ALL OF THEM sucked. I was going through the list of gubernatorial candidates for an advocacy piece on third-parties. Then it hit me that NONE OF THEM were REMOTELY intelligent. There was one guy who was talking about how Gene Roddenbury (That's right, the creator of STAR TREK) was one of his favorite philosophers. There was one who was convincing everyone of the dangers of genetically engineered foods. Yet another one was discussing how quantum physics shows that everything in the GOVERNMENT was related with everything else (I'm not kidding). I was just wondering how badly all of them would be crushed in a debate on this website, and it wasn't even funny. They would ALL be COMPLETELY demolished within a few rounds. It was pathetic. In the end, I just had to write an editorial on the general crappiness of the whole of the candidates, and how I hoped that whichever one was selected would keep us in a situation that was salveagable for the next guy down the line.

Yea the prices of gas and living suck out here. Sooner or later they're going to start billing So Cal residents for sunshine. Fucking energy deregulation got is into this mess, liberal fuckwads keeping us there by electing Davis and keeping there, and Republicans for putting up a shitty candidate.

i can't really afford to elave though, there aren't many better places for me to pursue my career in Marine Science and expect to get any sort of decent work experience like i'm getting now.

One of the biggest insults to the taxpayers here is when the California Universities allowed illegal aliens to pay state resident fees. WTF???????

THEY SHOULD BE DEPORTED ON THE SPOT!

And if they are not deported, they should at least pay foreign student fees.

How someone who is an illegal should pay less than a visitor from Nevada totally escapes me.

I remember there was a big celebration over AB 540 just after the election. Apparently they conveniently ignored the fact that the state is so far in over its head in debt that it should seeing the bottom of the Mariana Trench...

Arnold can't be president, he isn't a natural born citizen. He can however, be governor, but the last thing we need is another celberity political figure.

Irvine. But I'm still waiting for word from Berkeley.

And college tuition hasn't gone up that much, but it's not showing any sign of going back down or staying either, I think.

Even The Body Ventura would do a better job governing California than Gray Davis.
